As has been mentioned, the Cinnamon Tree is very highly regarded. I've never actually been myself but it's on my "to do" list. I've heard nothing but good about it.

My nearest decent curry gaff is the Juboraj at the bottom end of Roath Park. It's very good, as is the one in Rhiwbina, and I visit both from time to time. I'd give the one in town a miss though to be honest. I've had a few rubbish curries there.

I was in the Akash about a week ago. It was pretty good but on the other hand I had spent most of the evening in the Gower and Crwys. I could have been eating next door's cat and not noticed.
  • Hi,

This may not be the type of Indian Restaurant that you are looking for, but thought I'd throw it in anyway....in case of interest! It's the Vegetarian Food Studio, on Penarth Rd. Really delish, traditional Indian, veggie food - would highly recommend!

    See http://www.vegetarianfoodstudio.co.uk/

Although it's not a Buffet-style restaurant, the dishes are so cheap that we often share a load of different dishes anyway....means we can gradually work our way through the huge menu! :)

We went to the India Gate in Whitchurch in the end on the recommendation of my friend's dad - boy does he know his curry! great service and fab food  highly recommended.

looking forward to trying some of the other suggestions put forward.

randyravingrhian - you're the second person in two days to recommend the vegetarian food studio and we live minutes away so will have to make sure we pay it a visit

If your looking for Traditional Indian Vegitarian food Madhav on Cowbridge Rd East not far from the west gate pub is amazing! But it looks morelike a cafe than a restaurant :) But it is fab

We like spice essence on Penarth Rd not too far from the other veggie one mentioned x

The chef at Mint and Mustard won South Asian Chef of the Year last year. If you want authentic Indian food and not a few pieces of chicken in a tasteless generic gravy give it a go.

The vegetarian food studio on Penarth road is amazing. I usually have a thali special which is a little bit of everything and they do fantastic indian drinks. They aren't licenced but ther is a offi next door. They've had rav reviews in the Guardian Food section several times and in the western mail. Enjoy
  • The Tamarind on the A470 is fab - prob a bit far out of Cardiff, but it's all A road so not too bad. Lush food and one of the cheapest in the area too - I reccommend the passanda :D

I agree with the above suggestions of the Cinamon Tree. They do a lovely sunday buffet which includes all that you'd expect, but they also come around with a marinated roasted joint of Lamb which they carve at the table.
I would like to try the mint and mustard next anybody been there?

I would definitely go with the Veggie Studio on Penarth road. I am not a veggie but I love the place!
