Hi folks
in the past year i've developed a taste for curry and have decided that its about time that i cut my teeth and visit a proper indian restaurant. can anyone recommend anywhere decent?
i quite like the idea of somewhere that does a buffet type arrangement so i can try new dishes without having to worry if i dont like it. however i am open to any recommendations
there's a group of us hoping to go next sunday (15th feb)

my most obvious choice would be "spice route" which is down the bay...BUT it doesnt have a HUGE selection of indian dishes, as it also has orientel curries and a noodle bar...its around £15 a head... and a decent size place..the only other buffet indians are "the villiage" which is next door to the spice route, albeit slightly cheaper or there is mujibs which i havnt been to yet
for a more authentic taste try "Mirchi" on City road or Cafe Naz in Mermaid Quay, (bay) but these two are non buffet...and i think mirchi is a a bit cheaper then Cafe NazNamed after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
If you want to venture as far out as Swansea then Mumbai restaurant in Blackpill is amazing! They do a buffet on a Sunday night for just £8pp. Loads of choices of food. But book a table as they are always packed.

raj kinara in fontygary caravan park......cardiff airport --> rhoose --> caravan park (entrance to park is opposite the fontygary inn)
they do a sunday lunch buffet for a tenner (4 or 5 curries to choose from) but the a-la-carte is superb

Spice Route is nice but as mentioned there isn't a big variety of dishes0

Hmmmm, I love curry! Spent Christmas in India to learn how to cook them properly!
My old favourite is the one on Albany Road. I forget it's name, but it's next to the take away Balti King. I like it there because it serves a wide range of decent dishes and is cheap. These days though, if I'm splashing out a bit, I will go to the Juboraj by Roath Park (a really nice restaurant, wide selection of dishes, not too expensive) or Moksh in Cardiff Bay (more expensive, but really, really, really amazing food - small restaurant though).
Indian buffets are never that great in my experience. Best bet is to go in a large crowd, order a variety and share everything.
Good luck!
I just had to edit to say that with the exception of a restaurant in Oxford, Moksh has served the best curry I've eaten anywhere. India included!0 -
The Akash in Crwys Road, wonderful, been going there for over 30 years - my mouth is watering as I type!!0

Maybe we should form a Wales Buffet Curry Club and meet up once a month and try them all, then come back here and give our opinions
I've never yet had an indian buffet because it's just not something that I'd imagine would be a comfortable experience when dining alone. I'd also need to know the full range of what was on offer before I went in, which they never seem to tell you.0
