No, its just that whiteflag is an IFA and therefore there is far, far more money in him hyping unit trusts than investment trusts, hence the anti investment trust stance rather than based on whats best for the investor ! And it is in that respect I saw where he was trying to lead the argument and nipped it in the bud... hopefully

And how much money does whiteflag get for contributing on these forums?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
For Deemys reply read
No, its just that whiteflag is an IFA and therefore there is far, far more concerned that posters get a balanced view on financial products, and is not biased one way or another in favour of hyping unit trusts than investment trusts. Being an IFA he has no anti investment trust stance and his concern is based on whats best for the investor !
And it is in that respect I had no idea where he was trying to lead the argument so thought I would invent insults and tell him to B*gg*r off.

OK lets get back on topic
What Invesment trusts would be good to consider for a medium to long term Investment, I already have a holding in Foreign and Colonial. I am now looking for another few trusts for some exposure to markets outwith the uk that can be held for over 5 years to compensate for market fluctuations. That may give a good return0 -

Good ones for the long-term, I'd say country specific such as Austrailia, Russia, India and Canada
JP Morgan run a couple i.e. russian and India, and there are a few aussie and canadian trustsdunstonh wrote:And how much money does whiteflag get for contributing on these forums?

Some good rises there Deemy its easy to see gains in a rising market but harder to find good buys. Will the current market rises continue, I would be tempted to buy now, however which way are the markets likely to go? say I buy today and the market loses 10% ITs will drop in value making a good buying opportunity, however say I hold of and the markets continue to rise the Trusts are going to cost more to buy. Its a dillema that often drives me bananas or makes me sit on the fence and do nothing0

You could always phase your investment over a few months to reduce risk .
Deemy has listed some great ITs. Do you think the additional risk of gearing in an investment trust is worth paying as opposed to investing into say a similar OEIC or unit trust?
Going off topic sad or happy about big Eck?0
