Hi, I am 26. I opened a credit card in either 03/04 when I was a full-time uni student. I worked until 2004 but only 12 hours a week contract. I then didn't work. I have PPI and I still have the same credit card. But I was beginning to wonder why I had it and it's killing me at about 25 quid a month... I am going to reclaim. I can't ever remember being told about it or being told what it was for and I am pretty sure I didn't sign anything. Any advoce would be great thanks.

Hello
I would write to them to reclaim and complain, tell them exactly what you have posted above and you believe you would not have been eligible to have made a claim if you had to.
You say this is still active?
Here is an example letter you can use help with yours, there are also templates on this site, but I would try to write in your own words if you can with your own reasons, where I believe you do have a case here in regards of being a full time student at the time.
Dear Sir/Madam
Account number XXXXXXXXXX
In regards to my Credit Card that was taken out with you in XX/XX/XXXX, I understand that I would not have been eligible to have made a claim on the Payment Protection Insurance, and this is worthless to me, you had sold me this and I received no advice and was not questioned on my current situation, to see if this would suit my requirements.
I was a Full time University student and not working.
I have recently learnt from the Media of mis selling and I believe I have a right to reclaim due to my reasons.
I therefore request you refund me all PPI premiums and interests, also charges occurred.
I expect to hear from you by 8 weeks of my letter, and if I do not receive a favourable response, I will therefore have no option but to take further action in this matter either through the Financial ombudsman service or through other options I have in order to have my complaint investigated.
Yours sincerely

Something like that is okay, and always post by recorded delivery, to keep a check on the timescales they have as you can check this out on the royal mail website, track and trace, and also for your proof of posting.
Please tell us how you get on and if you don't back down if you receive a fob off letter first time as there are further steps to take.
Do you mind posting who the Card was taken out with?
Thanks and good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Thank you. The card was taken out by RBS. I have no idea of the exact date when I took out the credit card but I will contact them and ask for that.... I will let you know how I get on.0

If you do not have the exact date that does not matter, you have the year that should be fine as they will dig out the details anyway.;)
We are here if you require any further help, all the best, fingers crossed. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
ok, I just called the bank and i took out the credit card three days after my 18th in 2001 so alot earlier than I had thought.
This complicates things. I started a law degree in 2000 but i dropped out in jan 2001 and moved cities, BUT by the time I had opened my credit card I had signed up to start uni in 2002 and so would not be eligble for PPI anyway. PLUS my work contract at that time was only 12 hours per week anyway. I did work extra hours though before I started uni but after that (i.e. when I started uni) I never worked more than my contracted hours.
I still don't recall signing anything or being told about PPI. And I am still going to proceed. What do you think?0 -

Hi
You still have a case, so please do continue with your letter, I am sure its 16 hours or more you would have to be working anyway to be eligible for the cover.
If you've no paperwork for when you taken this out, ask if they are able to supply you with any? The policy details and terms & conds.
I would still continue but just change your reasons for this, as you were not working full time, and less than 16 hours a week (12 hours per wk) and so on.The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Thanks. I will send the letter tomorrow as I still believe I was missold.
I am worried they might say 'you still have cover you could have cancelled it'. How do I get around this??? I very rarely examine my statements, just look at the balance and make a payment!0 -

Hi
Do not worry, you may receive this standard response from them, they mainly do this because they hope you give up, still they did not go by the rules at the time, so keep at them, if another letter is required then send another as they normally give you another opportunity to write again, they will write back maybe with a more favourable response or may suggest the financial ombudsman service where i know the FOS should be with you on this, because you have a good cause to complain due to your reasons at the time despite if your working full time now or not should not make any difference.;)
Just let us know the outcome and we will post up to help if more help is required, but with a bit of luck you will be successful first time round, whatever you do - do not give up you have a good case here. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
I received a letter today saying that my complaint is being investigated. I should hear back within 4 weeks, fingers crossed.0

Well, I got a reply again today saying that they are still investigating my case and may take another 4 weeks. Talk about stalling!!!0
