can goods be posted? make sure he pays up front though!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
Do you have a shed or something? If so, you could put his stuff in there tonight for him to pick up tomorrow. Are you friendly with the neighbours there? Could you put the stuff in a neighbour's house or shed for him to pick up from there?
If you can't do either or these things then I know it is a pain for you, but it is probably worth putting yourselves out a bit so that he can pick up his stuff this time. Hopefully he will then leave you alone.
Can you pop back at lunchtime maybe? That way you can make sure that he picks up everything and doesn't have to return to pick up other stuff at a later date.0 -
he can turn up whenever he wants but legally he's not allowed to let himself in unless the tenant has given him permission.... where on earth did you get that idea....As long as he gives you 24hrs notice he can pretty much turn up when he likes, obviously its nice to have someone there, just so he doesnt snoop, but then again, he sounds like he just wants to get his stuff. I wouldnt worry about it to much!0 -
Thanks again for the info. There's certainly no necessity for him to gain enterance - no 'emergency access' required. It's been one month since we moved in, so it seems unlikely that he can argue that he 'needs' to gain access to check the condition of the flat.
The flat is furnished (large items of furniture and white goods only), and we agreed that he could store a few things (bed linen, kitchen utensils etc. in the store cupboard.
I assume he's decided that he needs a few of these items after all. That's fine by me, but I don't want him snooping around w/o one of us there.
From the advice given above, it seems like we can politely decline entry unless he can visit on an evening or weekend when we will be in...?
Am I right?
Yes you are right.... I'm a big fan of these to deter LLs who still think they live somewhere and can come and go as they please.... http://www.thesafeandsecurestore.com/security/motoring-cycling/yale-shed-alarm-kit.html0 -
Did you sign an inventory which included these items?Debt at LBM (March 2006): £30,000
DEBT FREE SINCE APRIL 2008!!!! YIPPEEEEEE!!!!!0 -
Thanks again for the input.
I am in 2 minds about whether to just let him do it on his own, or stand my ground. He certainly seems to have the attitude (as one poster mentioned) of thinking that he can come and go as he pleases. He give the impression that he's doing us a favour by letting us live in his flat(!)
There is a garage that the stuff can be put, but I can't see him goping for that. If he did, he'd no doubt 'forget' to mention sth and have to go inside for it anyway. I know I sound paranoid, but as I say, he does give the impression that swanning into the flat is his right as a LL...
I've emailed back asking him (again) to come on an evening or weekend. We'll see what he says.
Thanks again!Hello.0 -

Tell him you have to be there to turn the alarm off.0 -
You can insist that you are there and he is not allowed to enter the property without your permission.
If he's being a numpty about it, get intouch with your local councils tennant liason dept
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0 -
BTW, we did get an inventory (emailed after we'd moved in). It doesn't include the 'extra' items he's left, but I don't see what difference that makes. We're not about to throw them out, or pretend they don't exist.Hello.0
