  • Helloooo, have just popped in to catch up with the thread. It turns out watching tv and sleeping for 2 days is actually quite boring. Can't wait to get back and clean something!

Hugs to Dusty, Mudbath I think Martin looks like a !!!! with that rose in his mouth, Jo, and hello to all newbies. Sorry if I've missed anyone but my brain is mush. The Cupboard of Doom is great, well done!:T

kitchen is tidy and clean. wm is on (i've just explained to OH that we've got yet another new rule :D - any clothes on the floor upstairs will find their way into the wm! - let's see if that changes anything. i am just fed up of doing the 'sniff-test' )
Mozzy, hope you don't mind me saying, but isn't this makng more work for yourself? I have the opposite rule, as I don't want to wash clean clothes that get dumped on the floor. (Sounds like we have very similar OH's!) Any clothes that are left lying around get put onto a chair if they are in my way or ignored. No clothes are washed unless put in the wash basket. He learned v quickly to put his clothes in wash basket as the thought of going around with no pants on was too horrifying (for him. i was quite happy!) to comtemplate. It cut down on washing lots and lots. :rotfl:
Just a thought, we all have our own way of doing things. Hope you didn't mind me mentioning it Mozzy.
I have to be quite strict with OH as we live in a bedsit and are both quite untidy people. When we moved in, quite quickly I realised we would have to change as otherwise the mess would take over. I worked really hard to tidy my stuff up, but he made no effort. Eventually I got really frustrated, as I would spend the day tidying, and five mins after he got home the place would be trashed. One morning I said: "We will have a lot more room in here when we get rid or your chest of drawers won't we." He said: "What do you mean?" I said: "Well you never put anything away in it so you obviously don't need it. We will have lots more space if we get rid of it." Then I got a black bin bag out and started putting all his clothes in it that were lying around the place. He said: "What are you doing?" I said: "Well I have been asking you for weeks to help me by keeping the place tidy, and you haven't listened. I can't cope with living in one room with all this mess, so I'm going to throw all this stuff away unless you tidy it up." Bear in mind, ALL his clothes were lying around, so if I threw them away he would have nothing to wear. He went pale. Needless to say, he got the message and has been much better at tidying, although we both go through messy phases. He has a designated area (the armchairs) that he can put all his mess on, I have beside the bed and half of the sofa that I can make messy. The rest of the place we try to keep tidy!
Any tips on how to make messy people more tidy? I include meself in this, I'm hopeless really. At least I want to change tho.:rotfl:

Rosepink - you're showing good negotiating skills there with the black bag and OH's detiritus well done you!

I am now about to have a mega rant. So bear with me, or ignore me, whichever you prefer. I have been trying to cut down my utility bills (£143 per month is not good!).

My DS and his wife, my DiL live with me. DS is usually at work all day, DiL sometimes does Uni during the day and nearly always does a part time job in the evenings. DiL is from a warmer climate and although she's been here at least 10 years she still runs cold.

I have nagged her for years not to put the heating thermostat above 19 degrees. I often come home and find it at 25 degrees - or else at 15 degrees but it's clearly been a lot higher than that because the wall of 'hot' hits you as you walk through the door.

I have tried to educate her about only using the tumble drier for emergencies. Does she listen? Yes. But does she act? No! She just uses it when I'm not home.

Tonight I came in and walking through the door thought my home must be on the equator it was so hot. I have now found evidence (in her ironing basket) that she must have used the tumble drier today. For heaven knows how long.

I have now unpluged the tumble drier and am seriously considering removing the fuse.

Am I out of order ladies or should I just increase their rent?

  • Hello darlings :hello:

Mr Shattered's eye app was good. No change, which is actually a good thing, so we've stablised the problem. :T :T ( I say we, should be me... since I've had to kick his rump into action, after providing him with the action to take  )

Thanks so much for the good wishes/positive vibes. I'm relieved because I don't know what we could have done differently :)

Then this afternoon we had a bloomin good IEP review meeting. I love the senco soooo much... she very good. :j

Consequently, no flying today. Tomorrow we must conquer the house!

    Hope everyone's well.

Valli WTG re your kitchen window, and super serious kitchen cleaning. :T :T :T :T

    See you all later

  • Soappie - You pay the bills, and theyare obviously higher because she won't listen to you, so explain the reasons and put the rent up! If she doesn't like it, she should wear jumpers. Same applies to TD, although taking out the fuse sounds good - how long will it be before she tells you it's broken and you ask how do you know, you aren't supposed to use it!
Thanks for your comment on my post, I always feel so mean doing things like that but sometimes I just have enough and have to take action. I feel awful when the anger wears off tho! What a horrible wife!
Glad to hear your good news, Sarah
Big hugs to AnW's Mum, have been thinking of you quite a lot today
Have to go now, QI is on. Nite all, xx

Soappie - hugs re the electric, tricky problem - is her birthday soon? could you get her thermals. I feel the cold like anything so from November through to March I wear thermal longjohns and vest everyday (so does DS2). It means I don't need the heating on all day whilst I'm here. Could you put a timer plug on the tumble dryer so that it doesn't come on at certain times - ie whilst you are at work.

I've eaten (shepard pie) and had a glass of wine and now feel calmer but sleepy too. Just going to make some apple and raspberry tarts to use up some pastry which we can take with us for breakfast and then I need to pack my clothes.

No you are not out of order, to start with its your home so is your rules. However they are adults and its their home too, but you have told her and she isnt listening so you have to be tougher.

  • Soappie, she's clearly never going to move from her position. That's fine if she/they are paying to maintain that position. They obviously aren't as you're upset ( quite rightly IMO ) about the fuel bills.

My suggestion would be to change your tack, you're getting nowhere with this. So... why not, sit them down, explain AGAIN that you don't want to have the heat on that high/use the TD unless it's an emergency. But you understand she feels differently. So.... they will need to pay way more for the fuel. No need for them/her to change their position.

Sometimes you can bang your head off the wall trying to change someone else's opinion, she's clearly never going to change, which is driving you crazy... ( again, rightly so, but save your sanity !!! )
Make them pay the majority of the fuel bill. Ours costs about the same as yours, for a family of 5, with a child with special needs who creates the EU washing mountain all by herself. I wash approx 3 large loads per day, and tumble everything. Our heating is on at max 18.5 and a min 17.5 during the day. So given that comparison, your DIL must be really going for it!!!

Good luck. But give up trying to make her change her position, it's pointless!!! :)

    HTH honey.

ETA : no, you're not out of order... BTW.

Sarahshattered - it's great to hear your DH hasn't got worse. Fantastic!!
Soappie - charge them more. She's going to do it behind your back anyway so charge her more so you're not gnashing your teeth about it.
Dusty - have a fab holiday and happy birthday for tomorrow....have a great time.

Thanks everyone for their kind words when I had my wobble earlier...i'm fine now. Think i'm just stressing on Ladyliberty's behalf. She's not posted so she'll have had her op....she's going to text me in a few days to let me know she's ok so i'll let you know when I hear.

We've got an extra child to sleep tonight but we've lost one of ours (done a straight swap with a friend). I've got the older girls so i've definitely got the better part of the deal!

DH has cooked two curries for tomorrow night. They smell divine!

    Hugs to all xx
