I have a slightly older model and love it! I needed a BM that made a larger loaf than the MR Fastbake (which I started with, but needed to make 2 loaves some days!) and this fits the bill. I like the fact that I get a traditional-shaped loaf instead of the tall thin MR one.
I use the rapid basic programme which still takes 2 and a half hours, but get great results all the time. The only drawback is the size of the hole the blade leaves - but I time it so it can be removed after the last "knock back" of the dough. The resulting tiny hole only affects one slice.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
  • Hi, I have searched but could not find an answer in the BM threads on using the Russell Hobbs 4461 to bake a basic, large loaf of White Bread. I wonder if anyone is still using this discontinued model and wouldn't mind sharing the recipe with me. My Morphy Richards Breadmaker died on me a few days ago and I am trying use my late father's almost new RH but I can't find the manual. All I know is what order the ingredients are added but I don't know the exact quantities! Thank you in advance.

where someone is offering to send out copies of the manual
  • Hi all. My partner's mother has been kind enough to buy us a Breadman Jnr by Russell Hobbs, We've not owned a breadmaker before and are relatively new to all this 'oldstyle' money saving. Unfortunately as it came from a charity shop there were no instructions. Can anyone please point me in the direction of where I could find their manual or I would really appreciate it if anyone has the basic bread recipe.
    Many Thanks

  • sorry no idea...but you could try a breadmaer recipe book from your library,i recently bought a 1/2 price Argos breadmaker and ive used a recipe from a libray book...or you could have a trial run with a packet mix(im cheating,i have a Hovis white mix in mine just now,be ready in 1hr 20min)
Hovis pack tells you on the back,
    "Bread Machine.
    350ml water,25gm butter/marg(optional),
place mix water butter in breadmaker(with mine its water 1st),
cook on basic 2lb loaf, select dark crust."

Any info in this link that helps?? http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1980517

I did a search yesterday but couldn't find anything, although I did come across a site that was selling then for 12 dollars, can't remember which one now.

To be honest, I think you could easily work out the settings and just use any recipe for any bread maker, I doubt they are much different.
  • Managed to find the details of Russell Hobbs from one of the linked threads and called them, they have copies of the instructions and agreed to email me some (although they didn't turn up) there was no charge. I'll have to call them back so should have them next week. Think I'll try a packet mix on the mean time. Thanks all.

Ingredients for Large Loaf in order of putting them in the machine
    310ml tepid water
    2 tbsp milk powder
    2 tbsp vegetable oil
    1.5 tsp salt
    1.5 tsp sugar
600g strong white flour (floats on top of liquid so yeast goes on top and stays dry until you turn the machine on)
    1 sachet of yeast

(I put the milk powder in before the oil as i can use the same spoon for both)

Program machine to 'white' or 'basic'
    size:1kg(2lb)
    crust:dark/medium/light
    press start

I have found that if you stop the machine and let the loaf rise for an hour more than the program does you get a much nicer loaf. (thank goodness for a loose belt, otherwise i'd be eating denser bread than i prefer)
    :):):)
