Russell Hobbs breadmaker advice please

I bought one of these at a boot sale a couple of weeks ago, but have been a bit disappointed with the bread so far. Has anyone else got one of these and could they give me any tips?
My loaves are coming out quite heavy and dense, although they taste nice! I'm using the recipes in the booklet to the letter, apart from leaving out milk powder.
Does anyone use the crushed Vitamin C tablets? I'm not sure what sort to use, is it the Haliborange type ?(which all seem to be orange flavoured !)
Would really appreciate any advice.0 -
Hiya Fozz
I have a RH - although a different model.
It takes a bit of getting used to and tweaking before you get what you like. Maybe try different flours and yeast? Also, I do use the Vit C tablets. I use ones from Lidl. Not flavoured and I just crush them and add to the water. I think it does make the bread lighter.
I use tepid water if I'm not using the timer although again, if it's too warm then it also ruins the bread. I use all the amounts it says in the recipe including the powdered milk, except I only put in 1/8th tsp of salt instead of 1 1/2 tsp. Works for me.
Mind you - my BM died this week  The paddle has stopped turning although all the bits turn independantly IYKWIM. And of course, they have funny screws on them so you can't take the blinking thing to bits to try and see if you can fix it. I have e mailed RH to see if they can help - but I reckon it's out with the CC very soonI really miss the taste of HM bread. Shop bought stuff just doesn't do it for me now.

Hi all, the Russell Hobbs 12683 breadmaker is on offer on Amazon at the minute, reduced from £99.99 to £32.99. My mum has been thinking of treating herself to a BM - is this any good? Or should we just hold off and hope the panasonic goes on offer again? Here's the link

have done a search already but didn't find anything on this specific model...0 -

I can only speak from the research I did when wanting to purchase a new BM a couple of months ago and the RH Breadmakers came up as very problematic and best to avoid. This doesnt mean that you cant get a good one but I personally chose to avoid them and spend the extra on a Panasonic and it was worth every penny
