iwanna so these students can rack up copious amounts of debt, get a interest free loan with out credit checks? and give up a few nonths into the course? what happens then? xxx
why arent they credit checked? xxxx

You don't get bank loans though; the amount is very little to actually live on; one loan covers course fees, so like £3000-odd and the other is for living costs but rent can be really pricey. Like last year I was in a student house and the rent alone was £74 a week. I understand what you mean Toni. I had to work full time through my A Levels and will be working through my degree too.

but they should be credit checked! if they dont meet the mark at that age with credit theres issues, if they cant deal with money sensibley how will they cope away from home for a few years? xxxxx
I know some peeps that are still doing degree upon degree i there late 30's cos they have no clue where they r going in life xxx

student loans in principal i agree with but it should be on same criteria as normal loans, It's there choice to be a student no-one is forcing them, they r doing it to better themselves so what if they default? how does that figure out? xxx

LOL so obviously have done no comping yesterday... but i was all done up till monday anyway so lots of time left! ... will post up a pic of just how close e were later ( my OH is annoyed he didnt come now that he knows how close Rachel stevens would have been!)

Those who work in student finance, correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that you only get help with your FIRST degree, so if people want to do an MA/PhD or another BA, then THEY have to finance it without help from the student fianance company?

I agree with you, sort of, about 18 year olds, you're right in fact, but then again sometimes if you have NEVER had credit efore it can be hard to get your first loan or piece of credit?

My credit rating isn't my fault. My only debt is my overdraft, which I am within the limit of. I am currently fighting with trying to get other things amended on my file; someone opened credit cards on me in an address I left 5 years ago, within the last 2-3 years, I have moved house 5 times myself and am not on the electoral roll for my own safety (why do you think my Facebook is so private; those on my friends list, before you log in search for me and I do not come up, that's how strict it is!)

I'm up to date with comps :T well, aside from any posted in the last 3 hours and the postals :rotfl: 227 pages done on the normal board though ... phew

Toniq ... student loans aren't interest free :D i have more interest debited to mine each year than payments being deducted from my wages  so my loan increases every year

I personally take my hat off to students.......And all education should be FREE...No one in this country should have to pay to get an education...I've seen first hand now with Reece and all the students for the last 3 years....From the age of about 8 his dream was to go into acting...I have an uncle who was an actor as well so probably in the family.
There are 5 in the house each paying £50 per week which adds up to £1,000 per month.
The chap who owns the house dropped it from £1,200 to £1,000 per month...Then they have to buy food, Gas , electric and tv licence....I went over last week to see Reece and he had his hours cut to 5 per week so now he doesnt even have the rent. He has applied for 17 odd jobs with no luck...
The loan and grant is paid each quarter and he had paid his rent and bills and fees and everything else he never hardly had anything left...We still look after him as much as we can with his food but he has now got a bill to pay back...I know he will pay it when he earns over £15,000 per year as Reece has got a good name and never been in debt but its such a struggle..
