  • Well, I am 23 (but I'll be 24 in October) and went for my dream uni course at a uni I've wanted to go to since before it was even built, and if I don't get in, having had my interview on Monday, I may just go through clearing to any uni in the area; the reason being I am broke, can't get a decent job and this can help me get a decent job and also support me financially for enough time for the economy to recover ITMS. I am on benefits which have been cut and everything's closing in!! I will, if I do not get in, reapply again to this dream uni whether or no I am somewhere else next year IYSWIM.

Also, do student loans check your credit rating? Mine is bad due to fraud, moving house 5 times since I was 18 and also not being on the electoral roll...Thanks so much!!

Your age doesn't come into it much anymore so don't worry about that - however those who are a little older than the norm generally have work experience and life skills which back up qualifications on their application.

Clearing is always an option. It's no longer about not doing well in A levels as there is a lot of people changing their mind etc during that time. We have a lot of people apply for the first time during August, and a lot of people coming to us rather than where they've been given an offer just because changed their mind since they made their original application.

There are various bits to the student finance system now. The student loan, which pays for tuition fees, has no link to your current credit rating and does not go on it in the future. The maintenance loan is partly means tested though but this is nothing to do with credit rating but more to do with income. And of course you don't start paying it back until you're earning over £15,000 a year when you've finished your course. Best place for info is here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/StudentFinance/index.htm.

Good luck for your interview on Monday, let me know how it goes.

  • Splodz, I had the interview. I think I screwed up as English is my 3rd language and when I'm bricking it, I forget the most basic words. I once called an umbrella a "canopy on a stick" as I couldn't remmeber the word. As for UCAS points, I was ill and couldn't sit my A2 Levels so only have 140 I think UCAS points. I know I am entitled to every loan and grant going; I have about £5-6k a year coming in; that is wages AND benefits together and does not include council tax benefit and housing benefit.

  • I was the only older person on my interview and I just really think I didn't get in, and this isn't me fishing for compliments; but I want it so bad; I moved 250 miles to be nearer the uni, left my whole life behind and would do anything to be there.

Oh well, time to enter some comps as I need a bloomin' holiday and some kitchen stuff.

I don't speak them any more but it was Arabic and German as my first languages (my original surname is Arab but I won't post it publically) and the reason I have blonde hair and blue eyes is the German roots.

I actually got a higher grade even in French GCSE than English (I got A* in French but only A in English).

I do ok but I actually did read the English dictionary cover to cover.:rotfl:
