I am in the middle switching providers but that won't happen until next week, also i have my router plugged into m,socket and i increased my speed up until i installed the XTE f,plate PLEASE HELP!

I'm assuming that you have replaced the faceplate on your master socket with the XTE faceplate, and you have plugged your router into the modem socket on the XTE faceplate. Is this correct?

Yes this is correct, also i did as the instructions said i put the wire that was on 5 on terminal 5 and the wire that was on 2 on terminal B for ADSL, i didn't use a IDC tool because i havn't got one plus i didn't know i was suppose to but the wires are pressed right in, could it be it has to stabilise ?

    CONNECTION SPEED DOWNSTREAM= 4300KBP/S ATTEN = 41.5 NOISE MARGIN 5.8

    UPSTREAM = 412 , ATTEN = 41.2 , NOISE MARGIN = 21.5

    Thanks.

have you definitely installed it correctly, going from your previous posts the down attenuation looks to be stable but your upstream attenuation has jumped from 24 or so to 41 since you changed the face plate
  • get an idc tool, only a quid or so...it looks like you have either got the wiring wrong, or just a bad connection

Looks like i wired it wrong instructions were misleading i had one of my wires on adsl side on A as it says on the instructions A and B for adsl i thought ! are they for extending ? i just misunderstood the instructions  Anyway im back to DOWN 6140, 41.5 DB 7.7DB UP 412 24.4 DB 22.0DB
    How do stats look ?

    Thanks for your help.
  • reboot the router around 11am to (hopefully) get a higher sync. if you achieved 6140 with a 11:50pm reboot (guessing by post time) then you should fly

I agree the instructions are a little confusing the the filtered terminals are numbered and the A and B terminal should only be used to extend the unfiltered ADSL to an extension. IDC/Krone tools are fairly cheap you can get a plastic one from a DIY store.

    Making the connections
The XTE-2005 has 6 IDC terminals marked
B,A,5,4,3,2. Use an IDC tool to insert (punch)
extension wires into the terminals. To connect
your existing voice extensions connect the
wires to the numbered terminals in the same
order as removed from the original faceplate.
The extensions connected to the numbered
terminals can be used for voice only as the
ADSL signal has been filtered out.
If you would like to extend the unfilterd
ADSL signal use the terminals labelled B & A.
Standard wiring colours and number to letter
conversion information is shown in the chart
    overleaf.

Thanks for your help, i take it the reason for reboot at 11am is its not as busy ?
Im due to be changing isp soon to BE ive just upgraded the firmware on my netgear dg834gt so its now ADSL2 , do you think i should stick to my own router bearing in mind i won't get tech support if i need it or use BE router which is a thompson speedtouch v7 , Thanks again guys.
  • nope, the reason for the reboot is less noise (environmental electromagnetic etc..) You are most likely to hit the max sync around 11am-12pm this time of year). As you have the 834GT you can monitor the connection with DMT tool, you'll be able to see the snr drop over the latter part of the day, and through the night, the 834GT is a pretty good router for holding sync with low snr, though mine always failed around 2db, whereas the 2wire 2700hgv I'm using now seems to keep hold down to 0 :)

As to keeping your router or changing....I have the same router as you as a spare, I have a thompson (from O2/be) still in its box, and I'm using the 2wire
