Holiday in Barbados - any tips please?

Im about to go on holiday in a few weeks with my other half and we will be spending 2 weeks in Barbados. Luckily he already has a villa there so no need for hotel - just paid for the flights. Now i have the travel insurance sorted but was wondering if theres anything else I need to think of as I've never been on a plane before let alone to somewhere as far away. Do i need vaccinations? also i was thinking of just getting the nationwide flex account debit card to use over there rather than get money converted for convenience. Does anyone know if this is a very good option in barbados, re: cashpoints etc? also anyone else as white as me know of a good suncream as my lad is a fair few shades darker than me and doesnt need to worry about getting frazzled to the same extent!

Thanks guys!

You will need a very good sunscren 25+ if you are fair or not seen the sun in ages.
Get it from a big store ..somewhere like a big boots because the little places might have had it on the self for ages and it loses some strengh after awhile dont skimp on it buy a good one the sun is very strong.

Cash points are OK to find either in Holetown or in Bridgetown there are plenty of banks but watch for Mondays the banks are very busy everyone pays the bills on a Monday so we were told
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

I was told to get anti malaria jabs but couldnt be arsed :) didn t get bit in the end.

We was ther over christmas, if your interested, we did something called Snuba diving its a cross between scuba and snorkeling, its exactly the same as scuba really but only 1/2 hour instruction rather than 3 hours. Not got a clue where on the Island it was as the cruise company organised it. Ang on I've remembered it was a place called The boatyard, you dive round ship wrecks 3 its worth doing, and thats all I remember :)

You lucky thing! I went there many years ago, and would love to go back again.

We had no problems withdrawing cash. There was even a branch of Barclays near our hotel!

Take high factor sunscream. I'm fair skinned and didn't burn by sticking to the high factors. Tip: apply the suncream when you are naked inside, then put your bikini/swimsuit on. That way you don't miss any bits round the edges where the your swimwear moves as you move.

I think I had vaccinations. Typhoid and HepA spring to mind, but I'm not 100% sure. Best to check with your GP/practice nurse.

The local coconut cream pie is gorgeous - highly recommended!

Make sure you visit both the west coast and east coast of the island. The west coast is the typical golden sands and blue seas, however the east coast is pounded by the Atlantic, so it's really rugged with rocks and waves crashing in. Such a contrast is amazing on such a small island, and it fascinated me.
Here I go again on my own....

It was that aspect that really surprised me. With a very strong breeze blowing' one side was all white water and impossible to go in the sea. A few minutes away, flat calm on the other side.

For good nights out, go to the Boatyard on a tuesday night and Harbour Lights on wednesday and fridays.
Pay B$35 -B$40 to get in and drinks(local) are free all night.
