  • i have just had that argument with DFH, but i am too far down the line to start again as i have already cancelled my direct debits etc and have missed payments on some whilst they set up agreements with the creditors. is it true that even if you joing CCCS or Nation Debtline that it is likely that you may default on some of your debts as this made me think to stay with them? DFH have also called me regarding an IVA, i mentioned to her that i may be coming into some money later this year, and she said in that case do not go for an IVA as it will all be used to pay off your IVA and is basically one step away from bankrupcy, so theyre not all bad, even though they are thieving bar stewards. once relations have been set up with my creditors and DFH, i am going to sack them and deal with them myself.

i am £21k in debt and am too scared to start to-ing and fro-ing now!!

How much do DFH charge you each momnth. And what is their upfront fee? Check your documents.

Some prioviders take the first one or two months payments as a fee, so the creditors get nothing during that period. So shifting to CCCS would be no different.

  • I,m another one who joined DFH, back in Sept 2010 and since then we have paid them 1300 and our debt,s are still rising we are thinking of pulling out of this as they have made things worse for us and if we carry on for 6yrs which they said we would be debtfree l dont honestly think we will be.
Please can anyone advise us how to pull out of this plan and find a better solution.
  • my personal experience is that i pay £218 a month and they take £30 of that for admin (i think), they did warn me that the first three months are the trickiest and that my credit score will be affected but once agreements are all in place the debt would start to go down. by no means am i recommending DFH to anyone, please look at national debtline and CCCS first, i googled debt free help, and DFH was the first to come up so thats how i got involved with it. the one good vice is that DFH give you envelopes and tell you to send all final reminders etc directly to them and how to deal with when banks call etc. having said that, i imagine the charities would give the same advice...!!

rosytee, have they called you to say your creditors have agreed to freezing interest? as i think this is a common problem of them refusing to freeze interest in the initial stages but they do eventually.... (apparently! i saw a post somewhere else saying it took 6 months before their creditors held interest!)

    good luck

Write to them and tell them you want the fee back, urgently.

Check whether they have taken anything from your bank as well.

Yes thats how we got involved through national debt line and thought we was doing the wright thing,no nothing about freezing the interest, but we owe more now than when they took over our debt, plus we are getting phone calls,we didnt expect it to happen straight away but it,s getting me down now and dont know wether to pull out and try and sort it ourselves?
  • if its any consolation i am getting three or four calls from HSBC daily (including weekends) so you are not alone!!

i have had some correspondence from my creditors saying that they have spoken to DFH so at least they are doing something... its up to you, im going to stay put as i have put a notice of correction on my credit report as well saying that i have joined a DMP so hopefully things will get a move on soon. Please dont think you are alone as i am in the same boat, but i spent the best part of two hours on the phone to DFH in the first place to get it all sorted and i dont have the strength to cancel everything and go through someone else. once everything is in place i will cancel my plan with them and either go to CCCS or try and do it solo.

The one great thing about this forum is that i thought i was alone until i came on here so hopefully there will be others to give you advice who may be in the same boat!!

  • I am about 2 weeks into a plan with this company I am worried now ... like some of your posters I haven't missed payments but the debt isn't reducing as I am only paying min amounts... have I made a bad choice! they have been so helpful so far
  • not sure if this is going to make you feel better or not, but i am going to stick with it, as i have cancelled all my direct debts with my creditors and it will be too much hassle for me (yes i am lazy!!)

it soudns really horrible but i am glad there are others out there in my situation, makes me feel a lil bit better!!

spoke to DFH yesterday about the signature thing and they told me it is a scaremongering tactic and to avoid speaking or signing anything with them and to forward all correspondence to DFh for them to deal with, so even though i am paying them to deal with my creditors, at least i can see that they are actually doing something about it!!

    good luck to you all
