How long are you not going to see your kids for?

I'm in rented so haven't got that problem to worry about for a while yet.

That said, I've just spent 6 hours cleaning the house from top to bottom and broken my hoover on lego (again). Living with my mother until they're old enough to have me come and mess up their home works for me  :D

My favourite viewing so far, we turned up at what looked on the internet like a picture postcard cottage, white walls, enormous garden, bordering a wood. Perfect.

The agent didn't turn up, the owner's son did the viewing.

He was a farmer. He saw us outside and said "What do you want?" in a gruff voice. His dogs, locked in his van, growled and snarled at us.

I had checked the planning permission records before viewing, and apparently there had been no planning granted ever (or before 194* to be precise).

The kitchen was a really bad extension on the side of the cottage, damp, cold, smelly.

The living room had the only source of heat for the cottage, a wood burning stove, but the owners explained they never really felt the cold. Hence everywhere still had single glazing.

Every single room was full to bursting with junk, dirty junk.

We went into the conservatory, the best room in the house apparently. It had a stuff fox and a stuffed bird on the wall.

We went into the dining room. The fauna was represented here by two plaques on the wall, but instead of a fine stag's head, each plaque had a rabbit's head on it. We christened them Flopsy and Mopsy.

Upstairs was just as bad, but I have wiped those memories from my mind.

Outside, nice garden, but because there was not enough storage space in the house for all the junk, they had taken over the wood and erected about two dozen garden sheds which they had proceeded to fill with stuff, the place was a tip.

It could have been a beautiful house, but that would have meant knocking most of it down.
