I remember taking prospective tenants to a flat. The tenants had been told of the viewing and had confirmed the previous evening. Rung the bell, knocked, and on entering shouted "Hello", my usual entrance to a rental property. A slow viewing around the ground floor, rear kitchen door opened and slammed shut, patio doors opened. Upstairs, into bathroom, bedroom, into second bedroom, curtains pulled I drew them back, turned to viewers, who were staring open mouthed at the bed, tenant and girlfriend stark naked quilt on the floor, and totally oblivious to us.Left room apologized profusely to viewers, who luckily saw the funny side and ended up taking the property.
Later that day, tenant rung to ask when the viewing was taking place? I said that it had been done earlier, he was very quiet and on bring his keys to the office he was very embarrassed.

Not really that funny, but I did look around a four bedroom rental house (just before Christmas) that looked so depressing and unloved and so "really you wouldn't want to live in" that it reminded me what I friend said when I told him that we were looking to sell and rent... He had said "yes, that sounds like a good idea... Just make sure you don't rent a place SO depressing that makes you want to hang yourself". Well this property was that and I had a smirk on my face the entire way around.
When the rental agent asked me what I thought of the place, I had to say "it just wasn't feeling homely enough" (but wanted to to say that it made me "want to hang myself" - I don't think that she would have appreciated that
).

But isnt it funny what each of us could live with. I have seen a house that I have fallen in love with - it a probate sale, and does smell unbearable, its 2 bedrooms too small - we (5) would have to live in a caravan in the garden for a year to get it sorted, but it has such a feeling about it - I would just love to make it my home!!0
-
i went to a house that was absolutely beautiful - plush carpets, immaculate decoration, gorgeous ornaments. the trouble was that the owner wouldn't take her eyes off me for a single moment, as if i were going to slip one of her knick-knacks into my pocket if she blinked. i felt so uncomfortable i left very quickly.
the house was out of my league anyway.0 -

I've viewed a house that made me feel like that. Too dear and needs too much work on it - my DH won't let me go and see it again. I'd need a small lottery win to be able to buy it.0 -

I had one like that too - you have just reminded me....
Fantastic location 5 bed house - had a swimming pool, on a hill slope overlooking an amazing view. The swiming pool had fallen away and become part of that view. There was a long cage that the owner had built to keep her cats in as they kept being run over.....
The kitchen was in the centre of the house with no external windows. The only internal staircase was behind a kitchen cupboard door !!!!
Every room in the house was locked, and the owner unlocked a door before showing us around that room, then carefully relocked the door after we had left, before unlocking the next.....
There was something odd that we just couldnt put our finger on......:rotfl:0 -
I can better it - EA did the viewings, owners had left keys.... shown around EA opens bedroom door to reveal teenage son bunking off school (about 15/16) in bed with equally unclothed teenage girl.... practically in tears begging us not to let mum and dad know he'd been bunking off school..... we thought it hilarious, EA was really prim and mortified and apologetic... (we bought the house :rotfl:)... grim was the full potty - yellow and brown in the bathroom near the door, noticed it when caught it with my foot and it sloshed :eek:the household that contained a family with atleast 4 boys. everywhere in the house there were piles of stinking socks & dirty pants. We had to walk over these laundry piles in the front hall, the stairs, the landings, the bathrooms. The bedrooms were just larger piles of dirty clothes & unmade beds. All the curtains were all closed. There was a duvet on the sofa, possibly with one boy underneath it, we declined to check, & the whole place stank of curry & curry aftermath
the next viewing of a little old lady's house which was filled with mothballs smelt wonderful after that!0 -
As I am selling my house at the moment hopefully sold now,I had a very strange viewer her and partner spent around 2 hours looking ,having cups of tea and cakes ,even had lie down on the bed so that they could see what the view was like out of the window after all of this time they said we won't have any money for a while and we are not sure yet if we want to live in this town so would you mind if we try the house out first to see if we like it their plan was to live in my house for a few weeks and then they would know if they liked it and then they could make an offer ,I did ask them and where would my 21 year old son live while they tried out the house ,to which they replied very nicely it would be okay because he could stay there as well as they would be no trouble.0

We viewed a house in the dark last week. The estate agent showing us round had no idea about the properties he was showing us and when we got to the second one it turned out the electricity had been turned off (both houses we viewed were vacant) so viewings should have only been arranged for the day time. We decided to plough on with it rather than rearrange and it ended up being quite fun.0
