Just made this yummy red lentil and rice soup:

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/recipes/article5483652.ece

    red lentils - 40p
    rice - 20p
    red onions - 50p

Then add on the pence for the veg stock, herbs and olive oil. I doubled the recipe and made a huge pot for my dinners for the next couple of weeks. Bread in the BM and when ready I will cut into large chunks. I will then freeze both the soup and bread into 1 day portions.

This would also make a great dinner as the soup is thick and filling because of the rice. But it might also be good packed for lunches. I am a teacher and lot of the children I teach bring in a flask of soup in the winter-goes down a lot better than the norm!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Weezl had a lot of cheap meals, many of which are veggie on her threads on eating cheaply. Have a nosey around here, here, and here.

There are lists of recipes in the first couple of posts of each thread, and most of them are priced per portion (but obviously not up to date prices, but useful anyway).
IIRC as much as possible Weezl made use of any "free" food from foraging to growing her own, which you m,ight like ot think about when the weather gets a bit better.
I wish you good luck in your challenge.

    It's only a game
