When the recipe says "cast on 20 stitches", does that include the first one or not? I'm doing the 2 needle method, so the first one is just making a slip knot.

I have about 12 stitches, and they're all vaguely even :D

One row casting on, one row knitting :D

Now I've got to the end, do I just swap the needles over, or do I somehow have to knit backwards?

put the needle with all the stitches on in your left hand, the empty needle in your right hand and continue;)

And now I shall read the rest of this thread and hope I've given the correct advice:o:o

OK just very quickly read through thread:D If you're doing garter stitch ( every row is a knit row) which I'd really recommend, just put the relevant needles in the hands I said and knit again, then carry on like this until you reach the desired length:D Well done, by the way, it looks very neat;)

    Hiya
Pattern for you which is pretty easy.

    cast on 24 stitches
    1st row Knit
2nd Row knit but wrap round needle twice so you make another stitch.
3rd row knit one slip one to end
    4th row knit
repeat that til scarf is required length.
I used Chenille wool from home bargains 39p.

I really love the colour of your wool its fab.

Thats the funniest thing ive read in ages! Sorry, not mocking you, just amused other people are also slightly innocent when it comes to how to do things! (just like me !)

That looks really really great, well done. Knitting video sounds great instructions. Yes you can have complicated wool, so the one you have is nice and simple. See if you can learn finger knitting too - you can do it watching tv and is therapeutic. You can make nice crafty things with that - ties for presents , embellishment to liven up an old top, lots of uses really!

Just swap the needles over, and start doing the same thing again. Few rows and it will look like something :D Dont worry if its not too neat at the start. just get the basics of the stitch, and concentrate on tightening up in a couple of days once you are confident with the basics. Keep us posted!x
