I want to make a scarf. I'm not quite sure that this can be classed as "money saving", since so far I've spent more than any scarf would cost, but it's fun.
I have a pair of 5mm knitting needles. I have 3 balls of black and white wool. I have a lot of spare time. I have no idea what I'm doing.
Does anyone have a beginner's guide to how to knit a scarf?

Hi Juno. I'm guessing you know how to cast on? If you can't then google "casting on knitting".
So decide how wide you'd like your scarf and cast on that width. If you can only "knit" then just do rows and rows of that. If you can purl do alternate rows of knit & purl and you have stocking stitch until you get to the length you want and then cast off.
I envy you your newness to knitting!! Enjoy!:T0 -
Juno good luck. I have been trying to do the same for months. I can't even manage to cast on. Mind you it is hard from books and the internet..let us know how your scarf goes. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

I know there are crochet video tutorials on you tube, so there must be knitting ones too. Sometimes a video tutorial is more helpful than diagrams or photos.
Good luck!0 -

I decided that my wool was too complicated (can you have complicated wool
) so I bought some more. Now I have a huge ball of purple wool!
I've also promised to make my friend a scarf for his birthday, which is mid March.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
