Be Aware of Asda & Electron Cards!

Hello all
Hope you don't mind me butting in but saw "Asda" in the title and thought I'd have a look.
I have the same problem with Asda so won't shop with them.
I booked an on-line delivery for my Pay day. The day before my card was declined in boots as not enough funds. When I checked my bank, Asda had taken the money a day early.
After a couple of snotty phonecalls and an even snottier letter (which it took them 5 weeks to reply to) the outcome was this:
* Asda "earmark" the funds to ensure you have enough for the shopping
* This is "normal practice" and they in no way intend to change this
So, I have never used them again. In my opinion they should charge you when the order has been picked and shipped...NOT when order is placed.
Tesco's are much better. Man was at Mums door unloading goods when he had a call from shop to say her card had not gone through (mistake on digits she entered, not lack of funds...she's better with money than me!:rotfl: ). So if they can do it that way, why can't Asda?
Miss P

Fine, but my post was directed to the OP who has a debit card, so presumably could have/get a credit card.
The OP has called the thread "Beware of Asda and Electron cards" therefore it is obvious that the OP is referring to their own use of an electron card and the associated problems they and the rest of us are having with Asda when using an Electron card.

WHY in the world would someone post here if they had a credit/debit card if as donna said you read the OPs 1st post they are talking about an electron card which is commonly used by bankrupts & given out with a basic cash bank account NO cheque book NO O/D.....oh nevermind
a quote from the OP's sig....K2nga

I use an Electron card from the Co-op and I do online shopping at Asda. A few times recently I have had my card refused in shops and the post office due to this practice of Asda hanging on to your money for a few days, makes you wonder if they actually do anything with the money when you can't get at it ?
I was told at the bank that they do it on all cards but because you can't get overdrawn on the Electron card this is why you can't access the money that should still be in your account. In other words if you have £100 in your account and spend £50 at Asda they will grab £100 from you and refund the extra £50 about a week later. The only way round it is to either get a different card or make sure you have double the amount for your groceries every time! I can only say they must be doing it for a reason and the only reason I can think of is they must be making something out of it for themselves.
I used a pre-pay card last time and it was fine as I only had enough on it to cover my shopping which left my Electron card alone. Think I will do this every week now.0 -

I have actually had a problem at Asda - a few weeks ago it refused to acknowledge my Co-op Electron card at all!! Didn't even get to the entering pin number just flatly refused the card. Was a trifle embarassing but as I knew I had sufficient funds I tried not to get flustered. I promptly went outside to their Asda cash till, withdrew the cash and paid the bill. Since then I always make sure I withdraw cash just before going in and pay that way - I like Asda but this was very disappointing.
I won't be going to Aldi though - several times they have refused my card despite having sufficient money in the account!BR 08/06/09 ED 10/03/10BSC member 2500 -
It may be cards in general lately. For years and years I have never had a problem with any accounts, pre or post BR; but in the last 6 weeks its been horrible.
My Solo has been declined (when in credit), blocked for incorrect pin use (nope... definitely the right pin!), refused at Boots yesterday when they could not get authorisation for the card. In all cases barr one, I was able to pay using my Vanquis cc instead (and online banking to transfer the money straight onto it!) but I had issues with that too in Tesco when they refused the card - also because the pin was wrong and the machine blocked the card; called Vanquis who told me that there was not a problem at all with my card or Pin and didn't know what was going wrong!!
ARGH!!! Anyway. I am sure it will straighten itself out. And Asda take Solo.0
