Thanks for posting this k2nga. I always do my shopping at asda online and the last one was before xmas with my electron card and had no probs. I am due to do it again in a week so will give it a try and see how it goes with my electron card.

The only thing I can think of that might mean it doesn't affect me is that when I do my shop, I only actually have the amount I need for the shopping in my account. There is no extra money in the account as that goes in a week later to cover my direct debits etc. I will subscribe to this thread and let you know how I get on!

On a bad note about Asda - their blasted pay @ pump petrol stations will not take my electron card!!

  • Just wanted to say that I've been online shopping with Asda for many years with no 'double debiting' problems. However, 2 months ago they did this to me and it put me 'virtually' overdrawn with Abbey i.e BALANCE XXX AVAILABLE TO WITHDRAW -XX If it hadn't been for my child benefit going in the next day I would have incurred charges. I rang Asda and told them what had happened and they did agree to refund any charges resulting from them holding onto my funds. I didn't need them to in the end but if it happens to you give them a call.

I decided only to checkout once and not to add to my order after that which helped - but have now stopped altogether due to other problems.

Yeah the bigger worry for those with Co-op accounts are what nearly happened to me and to go overdrawn and they give 3 warnings on going overdrawn and thats it you lose you account and even though Asda may sort your charges thats no help if you lose the account for good which is why i will no longer use them plus there poor customer service with the issue.

  • I had this last week, not with home shopping but at the till, initially they declined my transaction, knowing I had the funds in my account, I asked him to try again, on the 2nd attempt it asked for a supervisor, she informed me it was a problem with the card clearing unit and took me to cust services and tried again, final attempt - accepted and I was given a receipt for my £144.02 shopping. The following day I too did a balance check to discover to my horror that they had taken the 3 lots of £144.02. The bank informed me it was on my pending items and should 'drop off' in a day or so, this was Thursday, it actually Tuesday morning before they did, and all I could get from the bank was that they would return the pending item eventually, and that this happens quite alot. I was really mad, £288.04 sat on hold from bloody Asda, without a kiss my !!!! from them. Its just not good enough.
  • I have had this problem also, it has happened 3 times since Xmas.
Each time i have called Co-op to release the money, they told me that they have had a lot of customers complaining about this.
Phoned the head office for Asda last week, the lady i spoke to seemed helpful, told me she would get someone from accounts to call me to try & retain my custom, still waiting!!!!
At Xmas they changed there card payment system that is why there is problems now, they reserve a payment when order is placed but on delivery day if there is a variation & the amount is different they take that aswell!! Then it can take 7 10 days to put 1st amount back!!
Asda did say if i had incurred any bank charges they would repay them, but as said before, co-op is 3 strikes your out!
Think Co-op are fed up of me ringing them!! Im a bit OCD with money now!!!
I'll just have to go shopping every other week now when kids go out for the weekend, only have Dp's work car (5seats) & there are 7 of us so asda del was perfect.

Well I had no problem at all with my online shopping about using my card. Aside from overcharging me that is for about four items which they ended up refunding me.

But on Sunday at the store, the till declined my card three times and luckily my OH was with me so he could pay with his card (he actually had money left in his account too! ) otherwise would have been stuck. I am not all certain that the girl at the till was not partially at fault because she was a bit miffed at me after I insisted she not overcharge me for a dvd I bought and she had to get her supervisor to come do an override for her. It went through at £5 when it clearly said £3 on the sticker and then when I pointed it out to her, she just messed about and then she actually asked me which dvd it was that had been overcharged?? You would think that the big red and yellow sticker with the number 3 on it would be a big clue??

Not so impressed with Asda of late really!

In the last week the local asda to me (Poole Dorset) it has been reported that one girl had a her card swiped 3 times due to a so called computer problem only to find that the money had in fact been taken from her account 3 times. Asda offered little apology so again showing little customer service or care for there customers but did say they would sort it out (Big of them). This girl had gone over drawn big time and was on benefits which had left her with no money for her and her kids for about a week according for the paper.

For me and asda thats it i have started going to other stores now with Tesco on me list this week.
