Hi Fairihell,
If you go into the red three times, they close your account. As it can take a while for transactions to show up on your balance online, it means you have to be very careful in case a payment has been delayed.

If you set up a DD from your account or go shopping and pay for something with your card, you have to make sure you have enough money to cover the amount. They will charge you:eek: if you go overdrawn and after 3 such occasion , they will close down your account.:eek:JUst wondered what was meatn by the '3 strikes and you are out' with co-op, just in process of setting up our accounts pre-BR!

Why not just pay for your groceries with a credit card and then pay of the credit card monthly with your debit card?0

I had this prob a couple of years ago with Asda, I work in a Hotel, so I'm familiar with the process they use, but they have some serious problems with the way they process, either with their online payments system, or operator error.
When you initially place your online order the system does a pre authorisation for that whatever that amount is on your card, then when they actually pick and process your order what SHOULD happen is a "completion transaction" whereby the pre auth is converted into an actual transaction. (At the hotel when we do a pre auth, we are given an authorisation code which we need to enter when we "complete" the transaction).
When I rang Asda to complain, I was told that if the amount that was finally charged varied by more than 5% on the total of the pre auth, the system didn't recognise it as the same transaction, and put it through as a new tranaction, leaving the pre authed amount sitting there until it expired (I think this depends from bank to bank, but can be up to 10 days).
I don't think it's limited to electron cards, I think it can be any credit or debit card, but Asda really needs to look at this, the man I spoke to just blithely said "oh yes, we get loads of complaints about this, tell me who you bank with, I need to fax them to get them to cancel the pre auth."
And this was a couple of years ago, so it's obviously no better!"Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first woman she meets and then teams up with three complete stangers to kill again."-- TV listing for the movie, The Wizard of Oz,0 -

Fine, but my post was directed to the OP who has a debit card, so presumably could have/get a credit card.0 -
You guys should all report this to Watchdog. It's the sort of thing they love, and could help. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
