    Ouch.

CTT I get what you mean. I have been following the advice about Balance transfers for a while now and successfully and have been bringing by credit down.
For this I have to thank Martin.

I don't think it is in the spirit of this forum to have a go at somebody for mearly stating a fact and not a moan.

    Thanks very much

We have also not received the card yet and cannot do the balance transfers until we do therefore cutting down the time the balance transfer 0% period.

We are now wishing that we had gone to somebody else.

I think that it is a good idea to reduce your limits on credit cards that you have cleared about 2 months before you apply for another one as I am convinced that this affects the credit limit offered to you on new cards. Perhaps you should bear this in mind for future applications.

However we had the same problem as you with regards the time delay in getting a new card - this was when it was first introduced and didn't receive the card until 2 months later. We simply phoned them up, complained and they extended the 0% deal by 2 months and also confirmed this in writting for us as well.

    Excellent idea.

I have a card that I keep for month to month emergencies but if I ask to reduce that limit down to minimum along with reducing the cards I am using for balance transfers as their balance comes down, as you say this might make a difference next time.

Silly me hadn't thought of that one before.

Will def. give that a try. Thanks

This is why I love this site. Thought sharing is so helpful.

the skypoints warrant some investigation, apparently I can trade in 250 points (for a spend of GBP250) to get a GBP5 credit on skybet. Bet it on some favourite ie 100 to 1 on, and i think I effectively make 2% cashback?
Usually with Skybet you dont get the stake part of the bet back if your selection wins. To get the best value from the free bet back a long shot on Skybet and then lay that same selection to lose on a betting exchange eg: http://www.betfair.com/Index.do (join via rpoints and get another bonus, place a bet when joining betfair and they will give you another freebie... I think its £15)
I've only just applied for (and been accepted :D ) the card and have not yet had details of how the scheme works so it 'might' be they treat free bets obtained from Skypoints differently.
