Sammy_kaye i think you can get cashback plans which pay out whatever treatment you need, prescriptions, hospital stays etc. don't think they cover for 2k's worth of orthodontics, and they wont cover me for much as I have had a stroke so insurers see me as 'dead already'.

    Christ

Yeah they are offering a Den Plan thingy but you have to have good teeth to be able to qualify for it and with filligns costing abotu what £50 it will be a while until i am 'orally sound'/ They have said i need to book an oral assessment though to see how much i would be payign and that spaces are limited  so i need to get it done asap but the first appointment i have is in august and for a check up becuase it took them so long ot fit me in they need to check nothing else has happened etc!! so it will be abotu september /october if theres nothing else in there before i am orally sound but hopignif i speak to her now i will be able to be put on the list for waiting. I want to stay with her though so i know my son has a dentist as liek i said there are so many people in south wales WITHOUT dentists its scary.
    Time to find me again

Its SO awful cos there is supposed to be a National Health service and dental health is so important. Hope you get it sorted;)

If there are any NHS dentists in your area, it's worth going on the waiting list, and then keep ringing to see where abouts you are on the list - i recently got myself an NHS dentist this way. you have to persist though.

It realy does seem a sily situation with this lack of dentists and those goine private making life so difficult for everyone. We only have one dentist in our town and thankfully I'm on his list and so far he's ok with NHS. Dread to think what I would do if he went private. Doubt I'd get dental insurance as my teeth are in a bit of sorry state.........have been all my life despite regular care.
The nearest dentist who runs a 'walk in' surgery is over 20 miles away and not on a bus route -not a lot of good for someone like me who can't drive.
I did have a problem with a filling that fell out before Christmas.....it was at the back of one of my crowns and was worried it was only that holding the crown in place so I bought some stuff from the chemist.......sort of DIY filling in a tube. Never did use it, didn't have the nerve and thankfully the tooth stayed in place till I got to see the dentist in April -surgery had a fire so emergency apointments were out of town and I did manage to get one at the last minute.
Out teeth are as much a part of our health as eyes and the rest so why on earth the dentists can't be run differenty I don;t know.

Erm don't know if this is good or bad really, but I used one of those stick back your crown kits when one of mine fell off years ago, and when I eventually got to the dentist they could NOT get it off, and believe me I thought they were going to pull the whole tooth out trying!

They very VERY sternly told me when it fell off again NOT to stick it back with that stuff!!!

That was probably about 20 years ago - and it's never shifted since

So take your pick if it's good advice or bad

    Regards

My crown had got to the point where I'd had it so long the dentist had said on a previous appointment that it would have to come out sooner or later........moneywise I'd rather it was later. The filling I had done as an emergency lasted until April, dentist gave me the option of having crown removed and a tooth put on to my denture (how much ?????) or another filling..........I opted for another filling.........cheaper for me at the time. I know I'll have to have it out eventually but not the way my bank balance is at the minute.

Sounds like that tooth glue really sticks well...........wonder if its got other uses round the house maybe ?

Re dentists - I have had a private one for a couple of years now - because I deliberately swopped AWAY from an N.H.S. dentist - and I find it is perfectly possible (and cheaper) to Pay As You Go. I guess it depends a bit on the state of your teeth. I have 2 visits a year - clean by the hygienist and inspection by the dentist each time - and rarely need anything else - and I find thats noticeably cheaper than having dental insurance. The prices of private dentists do vary a lot having said that - and mine is one of the cheaper ones. (I had to swop myself out of the N.H.S. in the end - as I realised that it didnt make a scrap of difference which NHS dentist I had in the end - I was always late into my appointments and, worse, didnt get the level of care I expected. I gather that NHS dentists are not "allowed" to give a decent level of care any more - even if they want to and are capable of it - hence my giving them up.)

I can't remember for the life of me what the a
brand name of my 'superglue' was - only that one of the ingredients was gutta percha...which is one of those victorian sounding medical thingies... It's supposed to be a latex type gum but either I mixed it up extra strong, or got a particularly virulent variety ;) you wait - I bet it falls off next week!

    I got two sorts

Dentemp filling mix for loose caps and lost fillings (it says on the box)
    and
Dentemp one step fillinf material - no mixing - for loose caps and lost fillings

Think I bought both as one was a no-mix, the other had to be mixed....

Never opened them but am keeping them handy as a 'just in case' - wouldn't it be coming to something if we turned into a nation of DIY dentists
