oh, this censoring is a bit silly at times! I meant the Puss cats not the other varity!sealed pot challange #572!Garden fund - £0!!:D£0/£10k0 -
Hi there, can you tell me where you got these from Ceridwen, thanks..xx
Mine were from
www.v-gloo.co.uk
Another firm that does similar ones is:
www.linkabord.co.uk0 -
The v-gloo ones are £114 inc postage and packing.....<cough>
The ones from the other firm are a lot cheaper and come in various different sizes.
I bought the more expensive version - ie v-gloos - because I wanted the EXACT Square Foot Gardening size - ie 4' x 4' - for ease of working things out. My maths is terrible on the one hand and I have a full-time job taking a lot of my time on the other hand - so I spent more to make life easier for myself.
You may be better at maths than me and/or have more time - so make different choices.0 -

my stomach still churns when I think of my 3 re jobs and their mortgages. My head tells me that this `scare` is good for them going into the future. I daren`t say any more to them, re saving all they can, otherwise I will be interfering, so I keep my mouth shut and lead by example and keep my fingers crossed that all will be well
I don`t think winter will feel all that long this year. Ch goes on at 4.30 pm and off at 8 and I make sure that all doors are shut by 7 so that warmth stays in the living rooms and out of the bedroom. All this acclimatising training has been very worth while but the worse times are on dull, wet days and on those days I light one of my special yankie candles and bake
I pressure cooked and froze a whole packet of chick peas yesterday and my alphalfa and brocccolli sprouted seeds are ready to start eating today. I have soaked another mix of little seeds so that I have a ready supply of sprouted seeds as I believe that we need all the vitamins we can get at this time of year. It is a really simple system of 2 kilner type jars with mesh tops and I use one at a time. Yesterday I put the alphalfa in the sunlight so they had an energy boost and some of the little leaves are turning green so it is time for a final rinse and into the fridge
I tend to make soups every other day or every 3 days, depending if meat stock or not and last night I pressure cooked and cooled a lovely chicken stock. I will just make one day`s soup from this and will add some beans and it is a good way to use up the left over veg before riverford come today. Sadly I have been cancelling riverford on alternate weeks or if I don`t like every single item in the box. I just top up with aldi veg as needed
The £10 per person christmas presents are finished. I got the last additions 2 days ago to make up the £20 per couple baskets. duc d`o chocolates at £4.98, half price at T and an absolutely lovely big box. I have looked out for them for days but the shelf has always been empty. Lol that means that everything bought from T for christmas ie biscuits etc has been at half price. I have an aldi turkey crown tucked into my little freezer and also streaky bacon so I feel pretty well sorted
I envy those with gardens as I had a big garden and a big veg plot at my last house. I used to love browsing the seed catalogues and ended up ticking far too many things. Pulling the leeks in the winter and tundra cabbage standing proud in the snow, ah well!!
all in all I am still feeling  :grouphug: :dance:0 -
I am also very worried about my 3 . One son is a self employed joiner and has just got a new van, new baby, and a new house, they couldnt sell their old house so had to rent it out.He is very vulnerable. The other son is in a horrible low-paid awful job. Dont ever let your kids become office cleaners !!! They get treated like muck. On the min wage, hour cuts, break cuts, etc.
But it seems to be part of life, ups & downs, and lessons learned eh ?
I am still trying to sort out the veg plot for next year--if things are going to get worse then we need to keep the efforts going ladies !!-- Ceridwens raised beds seem the way to go for us as we have no way of digging that wildnerness ourselves.
I admit I could do a lot more re meal planning and stretching, but I know I have that in reserve.I am off to have my porridge.:)0 -
I feel just the same about my 2, although grown up there is only so much I can do. Gently reminders work best, to pay down any debt, to have some savings behind them and to reduce their outgoings.
My DS has, after reading "Your money or your life" been doing all this for a while anyway (snowballed and paid down £22,000) and will be re-locating when he marries to an area with a lower cost of living, (halving his rent) so that he can eventually get on the housing ladder. DD however still has student loan and grad loan to clear and that does worry me so. Her work arena is one that could suffer so much in the recession, she is trying to cut down though and has moved back in with us for a while.
As for ourselves, we are working hard to pay off the mortgage as fast as we can, who knows we may even re-locate ourselves if it will speed up the process, but for now we feel reluctant to do any more until we know how tough it is going to get. For now we have a warm insulated house with a large garden and good friends near by, treasure indeed! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
Jan grocery challenge £35.77/£1200 -
I've literally just posted on the Grocery Challenge thread how I made a remark earlier in the week to my three. I'd been shopping for a few bits & said that their 'lodge' might have to go up with the way prices are going. Yesterday I took mum to MrS--she doesn't like MrT & the way small businesses suffer when he moves into an area. I have to say I agree with the sentiments but cannot afford to live by my principles
& really cannot see that MrS--or any of them--are so different.
Anyhoo, our beloved Marmite was £2:48 in there yesterday  & I've been paying £2....
How on earth can I ask my lot to cough up more when they--like the rest of us--are struggling to make ends meetI suppose they could forgo their mobile phones, but that would push up the house phone bill  --been there before & really do NOT want to go back--but the two who drive rely on their cars for work. One does have a system of car-share so drives every other week & the other can turn up for a shift in one place only to be asked to cover in another  OK, possibly use public transport, but it makes it extremely difficult getting home at gone 11pm of a night, especially in the Age of Crime we seem to be at the moment.
Looks like we shall have to ration the Marmite to high days & holidays then, cuz there is absolutely no substitute for MarmiteFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Last week marmite was still only £2 in MrM if thats any use to you?
If they have it this week, I might be sneaky and get a few (well OK a lot!!:D )to make up to my £40 spend (to get the £20 voucher back) and store them0 -
Let`s look on the bright side. Only one more christmas after this and the tough times will start to fade. Honest
re the ch: I didn`t flippin well last long this morning, I was getting colder and colder so it is ON. It is grim out there and not enough light to keep the happy brain cells happy. I might switch myself off altogether this afternoon and watch one of those freebie historical dvd`s that the mail gave away a few months ago. Now I am off upstairs to put on a vest ie layer 3 and some warm socks and blow the fact that I have a skirt on and will look strange. I hope that nice postie doesn`t ring the doorbell today because I am HIBERNATING :icotbaske0
