ceridwen, surely men are equally to blame for the "single mother syndrome". If a man sleeps with a woman and doesn't want children it is his equal responsibility to make sure it doesn't happen.
I also am sick to death of our living on handouts society, but it does take two to tango.Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -
Its okay Penny Penguin - no need to take a good thread over to "Discussion Time" - think we've had our "rant" for the day.....:D
Hi ceridwen,
Since you mention it, this thread has gone way off-topic.
Please will everyone try to keep to the subject otherwise the off-topic posts that are disrupting the thread will have to be moved over to the Discussion Time board.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: While it’s easy to wander off-topic that often prevents newbies finding the information they want quickly and easily (please see this rule). Personally I try hard not to participate in the wicked step mother games...having been a step child, I try to remember that their mum will always be their mum and that I don't get involved in their relationship, I don't comment and I remember than my ex once loved their mum and the stories I hear now are from someone who was part of a relationship that broke down and from kids who are trying to keep everyone happy and that I'm only hearing one side of the story.
We did once have an old chap in the pub in stitches when OH introduced me to his ex - it was important to both of us to meet, they were still legally married at the time although had been amicably separated for a number of years..."X meet my wife Y, Y meet my girlfriend X" I can't imagine what the old boy thought was happening :rotfl:Piglet

We are all different in here, different back grounds, different beliefs (or lack of them), different locations. What joins us is a rock solid common sense approach to life and to simplifying it.As long as we can hang onto that this winter, whatever comes.0

Nicely put.
Whatever our circumstances it will do no harm to have a storecupboard of basics to make meals from.
Or to have some candles or torches and matches in case of power cuts.
Economy meals that use less fuel or less expensive ingredients are probably better for our health ( and our wealth!) or lack of it!
Whatever our circumstances inflation is raging and prices are rising and we can either fight amongst ourselves or profit from each others experiences.
I remember being unable to buy bread, sugar, salt, coffee at various times and would like to avoid that in future.
I also remember queues of people outside a candle factory desperate to buy anything they could during the "winter of discontent!"
We have a chance to learn from each so please let's not waste it."This site is addictive!"

Wasn't there also a potato shortage? I remember in the early 70's when I had school dinners, having bread instead of something. I assume it was potatoes.

I suffer from a height shortage....well at least it costs me less to stay warm.lol.! I think there was a sugar shortage too ...my mil told me about her gran stock piling sugar, infact she had so much she may have been the cause! Correct me if I am wrong but wasnt there also a power shortage in the early 70s...responsible for a mini baby boom. Now I am not going to go that far. My brother would never eat carrots at home. We used to live opposite the infant/junior school so we came home for lunch then. One day my brother never arrived so my Mum (who was frantic) went looking for him and found him with the rest of the kids who went for school lunches,at the local co-op function room, having school dinners and eating carrots! The more I see of men, the more I love dogs - Madame de Sevigne0 -
