I have a problem with lack of space too. I am currently sitting in my cupboard under the stairs as we turned it into my office - someone told me i was like harry potter. I dont really have anywhere to store extra flour and pasta.
Does anyone know if you can get powdered milk in anything other than skimmed. Could i get my children onto whole powdered milk early enough so they think its normal - thats if they make such a thing - never seen it in my local supermarkertsMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

If you look for Marvel powdered milk in the supermarkets they may make it it in a "light" version as well as the whole stuff.0

Now it seems that apples and pears are set to rise in price too. This is due to restrictions on foreign workers in the UK and the strength of the Euro meaning it's too expensive to pay people to pick them and they will be rotting on the trees with an estimated 20% shortfall and therefore price rises

I don't believe most of what is printed in the papers...they are just doom and gloom slingers. Yes things are tougher than a few years back but a financial slump always follows a financial boom and vice versa. So as long as we are sensible, the good times will roll again in the near future.0

oh sure bambywamby and in the meantime there are many families struggling to make ends meet and tbh it is because some of them took too much advantage of the boom times. Most people taking part on this thread have adapted or are adapting, to changing circumstances via this on-line community. Never mind the future and forget the past, the present is what counts and helping each other is what life is really about.0

Bambywamby and Kittie,
I think you both have a point. I think sometimes the press exagerate things somewhat and it may not be as bad as they are saying. However, I think it is good to be prepared for the worst. If things do get really bad we will all be prepared, but if, after all, things don't get as bad as we are expecting, we will have all saved some money and that's what it's all about.:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -

Yeh...okay....BUT.....there is always the possibility of a group of friends/neighbours getting together and approaching the farmer concerned with a "business proposition" to the effect that "we are a co-operative - we'll pick what we want - free labour to you dear farmer - and then you charge us what is reasonable bearing in mind we have provided the labour for picking".
Why not?
God/the Universe/whatever you want to call it helps those who help themselves.

This is a link I saved a while ago, blame watching The Survivors in the 70's - it scared me to death.
