Sell the house, buy a static caravan on a residential park, my friend did this last year, the saving is vast, no mortgage payments yippeee, plus a lump sum from selling your house. Downside I guess is coming off the property ladder and losing your only security, but saying that as people end up having to sell their homes to fund their care when older, whats the point holding onto it anyway?February Grocery Challenge £250.00
Spend so far £230!! (Ohhh my days HELP) still got almost 2 weeks left!!0 -

When I cook pasta I always use boiling water from the kettle. Apart from anything else it's much quicker.0 -

Bargain Rsl
The Penge end of Bromley! Actually somebody just called me so I have two on my list now. I know some of the other people around here have some vacancies. (Especially if you were prepared to do some heavy duty clearing to reclaim a totally overgrown plot)
I had seven people on my list before Christmas, and with the end of year shuffle around/and leavings managed to accomodate all by halving some of the plots to 5 Rods (quite enough IMHO for a novice!)

This is something we've found. We generally only use Macro for cat litter and washing powder. But we went to Nettos for the first time last week and noticed a special offer on Surf. £5.99 for 75 wash box. We paid £5.99 at Macro, but then VAT is slapped on top.
On a lot of Macro's stuff, when you add VAT (if applicable) they can work out the same price as the supermarket. Eg cat food - averages 45p per can. We buy 6 cans for £1.98 in Tescos = 33p. Particularly if you don't usually buy brand names (we don't)
So be careful and do your sums first. It's very easy to be tempted in there - particularly with the sweety aisleNew year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0 -
I've been jobless for the last 3 months, ive had to cut back on so many things, its amazing what i was spending that i didnt need at all....
- gave up smoking (feel and LOOK a million times healthier)
- stopped shopping at my local sainsburys central (overpriced with a poor choice) and cycle to tescos instead
- cycle everywher, saving a fortune on oyster card bills
- stopped going to the pub (well, nearly!)
- havent bought any clothes
- realised that if i do washing etc in the machine it should be in the evening as our electricity meter is on economy 7
- shifted my overdrafts around to pay as little interest as possible
Since October, I have managed to live of the equivlant of 1.5 months wages, that normally i would have frittered away every month!!!! Thanks in part to all you guys on this website
Now im feeling better than when i was at work, although if i dont get job soon my trainers are gonna be looking threadbare....0 -
How do you detune your tv? Also, I heard that you don't have to pay a licence fee if you just disable bbc because the other channels are funded by the ads. I hardly ever watch bbc so that would be great but I wouldn't have a clue how to do it?????0
-
I think you shouldn't even think about it - the thing about ITV channels not needing a licence to watch is almost certainly an urban myth.
If you get caught without a licence, and they don't buy your detuning story - which let's face it, sounds pretty unlikely! - that's £1000 fine isn't it? Not very good Moneysaving.0 -
Nothing else for it - Great Britain is no longer great, so time to jump ship. I think Australia sounds like a good option. Can't be any worse than living here paying through the nose in taxes and working our fingers to the bone - what do we get in return? MP's with fat salaries, and administrators with even fatter salaries0
