'However, I can raise £1032.37 and I want to offer this an ex-gratia payment in full and final settlement of the account.'

Sal - Imight be wrong - but haven't they already accepted this verbally? If so, I would say

'following a telephone conversation with x on x, I write to confirm that I am able to clear this account. An sum of x was accepted as full and final settlement by x and the payment will be made to you by x date as agreed.'

This makes it more firm and doesn't give them the opportunity to change their mind and drag it on.

BB no they were !!!!!! on the phone and said I either had to pay the full sum , go on a managed loan  no dam way or on a reduced payment schedule for 12 months. Bloke I spoke to didn't even listen to what I was saying and at end of conversation said I should seek help from someone like CCCS....dur and ahhhhhh came to mind and at which point I gave up the will to live!
They have been happy as larry to get their £30 a month for the last 20 months and heard nothing from them. I just find it all frustrating and stressful and gets me in that downward spiral back to where I started

ok, if your limit is £1000 I would offer lower than that - I would start at £750, max. What is the current balance?

BB I have more than the £1100 so I am offering 50% of the balance which I thought was a fair amount and am happy to offer
