As KC says they seem to be wanting you to foot all their bills. Who in their right mind would lay carpets within even a year of planning on moving? It doesnt make sense its their bad planning and I dont see why you should have to pay for it. Its not like they are prepared to throw much in for the £1000 is it.

HB random mackeral are in their from my brother as he fishes locally and randomly puts mackeral, eels, dog fish and other things in the freezer!

Exactly - you can't prepare for you're loved rodent/wild bird etc if they decide to go to the big fun place in the sky
Freezing is an excellent option until all arrangments are made
Kind of like tempoaray storage but more thoughtful and a bit cooler.
