OK - storage heaters. Once you get to grips with them they're not too bad. I'm reasonably frugal with the settings but I guess you would be too. We're in a good sized, reasonably insulated, but rather damp two bed flat, and my DD is currently set at £45 a month - that should see us about right through the year with a bit of a safety net to come back by way of a refund, I always feel it's safest that way! That's with all heating and lighting running from electric, plus the hot water by the way - cooking is on gas which works out FAR cheaper than cooking on electric I find. You do develop a keen interest in weather forecasts with storage heaters mind - as you need to know what the weather will be like the next day to know where to set them! This year I've only had two of ours running - the other two just seem to drink up power without chucking out much heat so I gave up on those!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Ok - thanks for the Storage heater advice
Its a 3 bedroom, box room - dining/living room - downstairs office
Seems to be heaters in some rooms and not in others
Halogen and electric cookers (with our power cuts these folks are clearly insane). I guess the down side if powercut- NO heat or cooking - just thought of that
EH I'm paying £85 DD electric a month at the moment - no heating or water - that's purely electric for cooking, washing, lights and a wee heater in the lodger room (130 for oil now a month, plus 65 for coal, and occasional wood at 90 a go)
Silly question when did you figure out the others were drinking power and not chucking out much heat?
I know some folks who just switch them on and just leave them - but everyone says they're expensive - ? Yours both sound so reasonable considering my alternatives
BUT I can't beleive they are more expensive than oil? at £460 1000L
I do have an energy owl so I can possibly find out - I'm thinking for a 'trial weekend' at the house to see how we like it - cheeky but she suggested it!Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

No problem - in reality, unless my cunning plan comes to fruition, I couldn't afford the transport, tbh - south coast of England here, its a *long* wayOTOH, if my cunning plan takes a leap into reality, I'll be up there like a shot - all those prehistoric remains, wonderful stuff

Ah prehistoric remains - are we back to my freezer again - I must sort out the avian diversity in there if I'm moving I'm not boxing up 'random frozen birds and rodents' - that's just too wierd - I'm happy enough with boxes of random stones from beaches (I have many of these) but don't think I want to move frozen remains again - prehistoric or not!Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Halogen and electric cookers (with our power cuts these folks are clearly insane). I guess the down side if powercut- NO heat or cooking - just thought of that Hmmm - that could be a massive problem. I assme that, like the Hebrides, there's precious little if any mains Gas but any gas is via bottles? If so might you see if the owners would be happy to let you replace the cooker? I;m sure they would understand your worries regarding kids + power cut = hungry kids?

Silly question when did you figure out the others were drinking power and not chucking out much heat? It was one of those things that sort of slowly dawned on me - I realised that they weren't producing "much" heat - they are very old and need replacing really - but when we had the front room one replaced and I realised what the output -v- input ought to be, was when I twigged that the old ones were using the power to try to charge, but failing miserably!
I know some folks who just switch them on and just leave them - but everyone says they're expensive - ? Yours both sound so reasonable considering my alternatives I'm absolutely certain we spend less on heating than we would with central heating. The downside is that you are very conscious of the cost aspect when it comes to turning them up at all - OH and I are both "stick a jumper on" sort of people mind you so that helps.
BUT I can't beleive they are more expensive than oil? at £460 1000L
