The revenge of the stripey socks - a DFW adventure

Morning
Bleurgh to stupid breaking down old vans - but we love them anyway... Hope Darwin can get fixed soon, after all that effort you put in cleaning him too!
And good luck with the house! Sounds great (apart from the fire and garden...). Fire and garden are two things I'd most love in this house! But maybe field renting is good?? Or is there enough to sit out in, and maybe you could dig someone else's garden?? (or is that just not the same??) What's the allotment situation up there? And what's the main thing you want a garden for? (food, chickens, playing, camping??) - might help you decide what's the best course of action if you haven't got one!
Good luck with the bills sorting out too - also bleurgh.
I'm well getting into the swing of this MSE business - found myself spectacularly annoyed to have a day off work sick cos it meant I couldn't pay as much off the Mr Daffs thing as I would have liked this morning! Pah, it's going SO Slowly! It gets all of the income from my second job (or third if you count the PhD as the first one, which I do), but sadly that's only 2 hours a week now - pah!!
Ah well, sun's shining, and everything's cheery, stripey knickers and socks in force today for a day of PhD-ing. How's yours??

I hope you're OK cheery! Well done on how much you've paid

Ok money stuff
CC's just both paid - eek to one (687) and not so eek to other (1.46)
Emailed students about room in June/July - they seem happy and have offered a 2 month upfront payment of £500 a month - sent on lease etc so will see what happens
Need to pay coal - we have a coal mountian so I think I need to tell them actually when I said NO MORE COAL - I meant it. No idea how much we owe - also need to be brave ......
Need to be even more brave and phone oil company and pay off a chunk (400) and up the DD (to £130) - not looking forward to this one, but if we do move in July - then this will stop then - have just freed up some money on CC's so I guess I can do this and it won't be as painful at the moment.
Need to think houses - if we like this one we've been offered I need to be out of this one I'm in by late july and don't get into the other one til mid Sept - I need
A somewhere to put all my stuff (?) there are garages at both houses - if I'm doing landlord a favour by moving out a month early I don't see why I can't either store my stuff at this house or a new one (?) and if I'm doing the new house folks a favour by not asking for the house until they don't need it then I don't see why I can't clog up their garage as well?
B somewhere to house the kids when back from Dad's in Mid/Late August - I have a pal with a small house which might be able to be 'borrowed' but its not ideal - but its only really 2-3 weeks
I am also not moving without a good indication of council tax cost and electricity costs for the new house.
Phew - much braveness needed.
Groceries on track so far - but not much of budget left - I do think my 100 a month needs an adjustment..........probably £150 nearer the mark.
PS I also need somewhere for me to live during august I guess - doh! Just because the kids are away doenst mean I can be entirely homeless?
Although I do have Darwin.......Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

hi Fay, new house sounds possible though it's not without it's drawbacks.
as to storage heaters, you could converse with the neighbours (depends on how severe your allergy is though) and see how much they pay, but last winter i 'spent' £350 on electric, and was still cold, but not as cold as this winter, without the storage heater in the living room i admit. We're also in a badly insulated, brick built one bed flat with a major damp problem at the moment. But i know you're used to paying a lot out to fuel your house so my numbers are only an indication.
The neighbours would also know details like council tax etc, you may yet have to brave the allergy and talk to them.
I think i've finally got my head around what i see as my increasing my debt over the weekend (aka bed on 12mths interest free credit), still grates but as i've said i can take the money out of the baby fund if it really gets me down.
On another MSE note, i think i may have had a breakthrough in the OH understanding that overdraft = less money available next month from your wages. I shall keep my fingers crossed that it continues.0 -
Ta LT
Liked the house very much - no fire/oil heating means fuel prices should be substantially less than at the moment.
Good for you having breakthrough's with OHTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
