You have a PM Fay! Have just got your copy of the spreadsheet ready to send....it adds the costs up for you for the year and then breaks it into a monthly cost per vehicle and both combined. It's also got the scope to put stuff on for two years as I felt that things like tyres etc depreciated over two years not one.....:o

  • Morning all - my budget almost finalised - woo hoo - will post it later - I am joining the live on 4k (ish) challenge - been wanting to since I started the threads so I hope I can do it - I think my 'moveable expenditure' is around the 6k mark - so I think that's going to be my target.

My chickens also just started laying again! Woo hoo - why now - but who knows - just glad for fresh eggs again.

Cooked them up all the scraps they don't normally like raw and old bits cauliflower and a manky cucumber from before the holidays with some brought home stale bread from trip away - I used the slow cooker over night and it seemed to work (too expensive? not sure) but I am sure these cold mornings they appreciate my slow cooker.

Got alot of cooking to do for the freezer later - went shopping late last night (9pm here they reduce most things by 90% or down to 10p) and scooped many 10p bargains which need either cooked or frozen including

    Sausages
    Tomatoes
    Milk
    Bread
    more sausages

    :)

Morning all and thanks EH :)

  • Thinking about the challenge - my sort of budget is

    Oil - 1200
    Elec - 1020
    Coal - 360
Groceries -1200 (this includes toiltetries, cleaning stuff, dog/chickens food etc)
    Travel (ferries) - 600
    Petrol - 600
phone & BB - 600 (no choice of provider here so BT package)
    Misc + pressies etc - 420

    Should come to about 6k

Not including things I can't change - tv licence, road tax, car repairs etc nor my rent (£7800)!!! and will be moving house in 2010 so some things might change

OK so what have I forgotten?

    Fay, firstly happy New Year!

Secondly what about expenses relating to your children - music lessons, football subs, school uniform, trips that kind of thing??
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

  • Hello chaps - happy new year to you as well.

L - you are right - the poo is never far away from the fan in this house

Misc expenses covers birthdays etc and stuff - she hopes - its also NOT my year for xmas in 2010 so we just don't do it (nor spend much/anything on it). I'm thinking that any 'extra's' have to be earned from extra money (quidco, extra work etc)

Kids both have an allowance each month for clothes, clubs, lunches, buses and etc from their family allowance so all their related stuff is in that (I hope). No uniform for DS - DD has hers from freecycle just one item of school clothing required to be worn (ie a jumper). Music lessons are free, dad buys shoes and jackets, most other clothes come in black bags from older cousins/friends or they buy what they need from their allowance.

I'm trying to teach them to budget (lol) its amazing how interesting a packed lunch/flask is when its *free* from home if you have to use your own money to pay for your lunch.

I know its a bit of a 'stretched' budget but I want to try - gives me more money for saving and paying off debts.

Its also a 'ok so if I do lose my stipend next week' kind of head space as well - meeting at work on 15th - my fate (ie do I get money for the next 12 months) is decided then....(scary) - so trying to really keep spends within non-lodger, non-phd money if I can

Lunch over - guess back to it!

mince and tatties in the slow cooker nomnom

Good luck with the live on £4000 challenge, I tried last year but failed miserably as I found I just didnt have time to document every penny. Friendly bunch on there though.

I'm worried I won't but have started a sort of system (keep receipts) and when needing to work will probably in put them into the computer (LOL)

Although after next week - I may have alot of time on my hands depending upon how stupid my supervisors decide to be.
