  • I wanted to make these:
    http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4026/boulangre-potatoes

There are lots of variations on this theme, whether you use all stock or mixed stock and milk, flavour the potatoes with rosemary or garlic, cook the chopped onion first or not, anything goes really as long as the potatoes are very finely sliced (I used one of those mandolin things) and there's some liquid in there.

It seems that a lot of dishes that you 'normally' cook inthe oven for an hour or two work well in the slow cooker, so thought I'd try it with these. Cooked for about 7 hours (my little cooker doesn't have any heat settings just 'on') then lifted out the crock pot and put it in the oven to brown the top while the Yorkies were cooking (you don't really need to do this though). Anyway it was a success - just like the 'real thing'!

hi Fay, sounds like a busy week ahead. The idea of SORN'ing Darwin seems pretty good to me if it's gonna take a couple of months to get the body work done.
OH announced he wants us to go to London for long weekend next month, therefore heart dropped, but have set him looking at train details cos i think there's loads of work on the line and i may be able to shorten the trip if i'm lucky.
I had my first bad batch of yorkshire yesterday, still edible but just didn't rise so i think that's down to there not being enough heat cos of what else was in the oven so it's a lesson learnt.

some guy at work made some spicy bean slow cooker affair for a pot luck lunch leaving do and I have asked him for recipie twice now....would it be stalking if I chased him down again? I want to batch cook some ;)

I have offically run out of room in my freezer. I think i broke a bit of the drawer the other day shoving it closed. Problem is, I still keep buying food then batch cooking. Something wrong there huh? Maybe I should set myself a completely unrealistic budget per week for milk and bread and then only eat what I have in the house. I think its a fear I have of having nothing, like when we were kids and the cupboards used to literally be bare.....

All those roast dinners over the weekend sound SO lovely. Home made yorkies sound v hard to make, Auntie bessie cooks mine for me ;)

  • Lemontree - ooh London (been there um twice) - waves hello :)

Angel I want the recipe :) so stalk away and remember I set a budget just for milk, fruit, veg, bread and butter - it worked for us - might be worth giving a go

    :) - Troglodyte thanks :)

DS secret Yorkie mix (works every time without fail)

    1 cup plain flour
    1 cup milk
    2 eggs

Just mix - leave in fridge for a bit if you have time (1/2 hour) or not

    Oven really really hot >210oc

Bun tray in oven with oil 10-20 mins til its smoky (or almost)

Pour mix into trays carefully - bake 15-20 mins

Amaze your friends and relatives with amazing puffy yorkies

a similar receipe to mine Fay.

I've come up with a cunning plan to get debt free. I'm going to become an artist! (said in the arty farty way of course lovies!)
When taking a look at the tosh which wins the Turner Prize each year i feel that copying out my budget at any one time on a very big piece of paper would certainly be upto matching the competition! My budget is a work of art in and off itself! My handwriting is quite neat and i have also been known to use red and green ink as well as black ink. I am sure this is the answers to my prayers!

If only it would solve the problem of my needing to work until i'm 69 before i can leave work - seems criminal to me, ok their are people of that age who are 'young' in health and heart but there's a lot who aren't.

London in an of itself isnt' terrible it's what it involves when we're down there that is putting me off.
  • Lemon tree I'd give you the turner prize :) and you said it was the oven not the recipe that was not being friendly

I think your budgets sound like they are indeed a work of art..................

they are certainly a work of art, i am very practiced at making numbers look beautiful and unrealistic and accounts look blemish free - maybe i should work for a beauty magazine whilst i'm creating my Turner work of art. Multitasking and earning more wages which has to be good!
