Shame about the house Lemon Tree
Hang in there with the debts - think how good it'll be when it's all paid off!
Well done on the job application Unix - I've applied for three this week too. Fingers crossed all round! (fingers especially for the one that won't make me work full time - I'm a proper loafer by heart...)I lost 2.5lbs this week, so fingers crossed for you!
Fay - well done on your writing. It's a good thing you're being tested for dyslexia - if you do have it then there's plenty of things they can do to help, and your stupid bloody supervisor can quit nagging at you. Grrrr. Good luck, you're doing great!
As for the socks... I have quite a few pairs of stripey socks already!I hope you don't think I was ASKING for a pair above, cos I wasn't, you've got enough to worry about!
However, if you desperately want to send me a pair, then feel free, but I have to send you something in return0 -
My Ds2 and DD2 both have dyslexia. Managed to get 2 veg beds planted 1 to go.

Welll done on the garden and both my kids are 'slightly dyslexic' and my brothers and sisters are all dyslexic -- I found out tonight.

My Dad was found to be dyslexic at University. He went as a mature student in his 50's to do ceramics (we were students at the same time - not same Uni though).
He was struggling big time with the essays and one of the lecturers suggested he got assessed. Once they confirmed it, he got a lot of help with things like a computer and I'm sure he had help with his exams (although not entirely sure what).
I think for him it was a relief in a way as it explained so much. His spelling was/ is terrible and it made a lot more sense.
My dad has always read lots and still reads a lot now so I don't think he is at the severe end of the spectrum.
My cousin was tested last year. She is doing printmaking at art school and I think practically everyone in her year has dyslexia. I'm not sure if there is a link to creativity.
Personally I would advise getting tested, you can do what you want with the results.
And also remember you are going through a tough and stressful time at the moment with your PhD so try to give yourself some time and space to think things through.
Stay stripy n fabulous!!!!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
And feed my interiors addiction0 -
Ta make up
I am worried more about NOT being dyslexic
I have had a lot of student support since my melt down in december after my first year meeting and the strategies they have given me to unmuddle my brain are those used for dyslexic people. Which is helping alot. I struggle to get my documents proofed though, and they won't help me with that, I am all out of favours from folks and a 12 year old and a 14 year old bless them can't read my work and proof it for me - so when I asked for help at the univeristy it was met with a bit of hostility and a bit of 'well we will have ot assess you' I don't think its unreasonable to have someone proof a document for me.
I just haven't ever been able to spell very well, I read like a demon, but struggle to read outloud and struggle to finish essays etc, most often than not I struggle to start stuff
Will see, if I am not dyslexic then I think I am scared I have reached some kind of ceiling or other - if that makes any sense?
I know I am lazy but its not supposed to be a daily battle to make things make sense is it?
Interesting what you say about your dad

Fay, I find your writing on here witty, clever, interesting, humerous, and very well written, if that helps in any small way!! I enjoy reading your posts, they always bring a smile to my face! You are very descriptive, which is an extremely important skill when writing - when you describe something, I can instantly see it in my mind.
Thank you again for the ant advice!!!! Will be out there later with a very large fork!!!0 -
Sorry they were miserable when you asked for help Fay!
Was that student support? Can you ask at the students union? They sometimes have a different policy. I had a friend who was like you describe, couldn't read aloud and found it very difficult to finish essays etc as she was always trying to get things right. Once they'd found she was dyslexic, she got some computer software to help her (not entirely sure what it did), and one of those things where you can speak aloud and it'll write your words down for you (voice recognition stuff). She also got essay extensions and I think they marked her work without looking at spelling etc.
Good luck anyway!
I've got about 140000000000 milllion words to write myself today, so you're in good company
Have just been for a run thoughAnd my friend's got us a free pass to a spa at 11, so I'll be off there in a while. Hooray! Very MSE, and very cheery! I've never been to one before!
Then I'll need a kick up the backside as I've got LOTS of work to do today, and we're having a Wigs and Fabulous Shoes party tonight! (you're all welcome to join in, of course!0 -
