    Peedie update

Money wise not much to report :)

Edinburgh was expensive (starting from the bargain price for the £153 quid for a flight) leading to a - slap it on the visa (essential expense situation). However I spent less than 10 quid out when there and 22 on a pair of jeans. Oh well that's the clothes budget gone for the year (I kid not:)) - so under £200 - a bit hefty for a night out but when in Rome (or rather when NOT close to edinburgh) I console myself with I dont do it much, I have no social life here and I dont do it much.

Oh yeah and OH had a hoot of a time telling everyone about the dead birds in the freezer. As my friends know me already and live on various hunting/shooting/fishing estates - my freezer wasn't really that unusual in the present company! I think he was a bit shocked!!

Back to the finances - Lodger money still sitting in bank acount (not paid off Hairy with it yet - which is very annoying) but its blinking at me until we find out what is happenning about brothers flat (he seemingly moves in on Friday) lease should come tomorrow - and then I will know exactly how much and if a deposit is needed so probably about £600 he needs (I imagine it is) - and he SHOULD get paid by Wed (£450) - so if he's paid I get to help out by 150 if hes not paid I have to mysteriously find £600 (you know from the stash of money that is under the stairs in the shoe box) - even I am wondering if I can do it ?? I know its not my problem - but he needs a short term fix for longer term happiness - for once in my life I might be actually able to help someone financially even just for a month or so.......there's a major turn up for the books. I left home at 16 when he was 11 - so I haven't been much help so far have I?

On the positive side after the first month or so he will get his benefits etc and he will be in his own house, here (which is great for me selfishly for childcare etc) and he will be happier than being down south. So hurrah's all round.

Are you still with me.............we can do it ..........

Grocery challenge - 43/50 thus far - how cool is that - OK we do have our own stripey socks shop - which is ace - but I am trying to go for £75 in May (fruit veg bread and milk) and putting another 50-75 away for the mega shop in August time when we are next away with a car.

First of the salad and the veggies are being eaten and now rhubarb as well - so that's helping.

Oddly not missing shopping for food - maybe the mega shop just overdosed me.

DD trip I have put away the money I thought I would spend in edinburgh (£100) so that pays for her dads half and a bit of spending money - so that I guess had sort of resolved itself. :) Go me for not getting 'rat faced' on cocktails whilst in edinburgh - one round cost £51 (NOT CHEAP!)

OH here from Wed hurrah to that - we need to do some darwin stuff to get him ready ish for a wee trip away at the end of March for the boys (Mountian biking world cup in Fortwilliam) and then the mega jaunt to dads.

Collie dog who went on her holidays for a bit is due back this week - so the nice quiet house will have obsessive compulsive collie in it again - the break was nice :)

Not much extra to loans etc - but am keeping the spends down with the storecupboards being groaning. Need to trawl the GC board for some new recipes I think so there isnt a revolution on my hands :)

Oh yeah and a whispered reminder to myself - um lazy chops - ebay..............listings............???

Well done on the shopping Fay - I'm afraid I went over :o - I had a feeling I might. Oh well, new month, new budget starts Friday! (yeah, 5 week month with TWO Bank Hol weekends - aargh!)

In the interest of giving some of you a bit of a giggle, I thought I'd share with you the contents of a letter which is going off to Northern Rock tomorrow.....I reclaimed PPI in December - expected an outright denial at first and was surprised by some weeks later getting aletter that admitted mis-selling and making an offer. Offer was wrong though (by over £300!) and they also reckoned I still had a balance on the loan (which was paid up and finished) - they then started generally being difficult, taking weeks and weeks to respond to letters, ignoring the content of those letters, and finally deciding to change their minds and tell me that they hadn't mis-sold anyway, but as they didn't want to be in dispute with me they'd cough up anyway - yeah, right! Anyway, they have finally come up with the right figure, but as I'm now completely hacked off with them I decided to have some fun with the incompetant nicompoop who's been dealing with things......enjoy!
Further to your letter of 6th April, please find attached the completed acceptance form for the repayment of PPI mis-sold to me on the above loan account. It should be noted that the acceptance form refers to a letter from yourselves dated 3rd April - if any such letter exists it has not been received by me and as such the acceptance is for the amount of £616.43 as offered in your letter of 6th April. I assume that this reference to the incorrect date is simply another mistake in what has become a veritable catalogue of errors by yourself.

I am somewhat baffled by paragraphs 2 & 3 of your letter - where you state that you cannot see any evidence of mis-selling. Has your previous letter dated 13th of January been mysteriously deleted from the file I wonder, as at that time you were content to admit the fact that I was indeed mis-sold the policy. As all the letters I have originate from the same person I find it baffling why now, at this late stage in proceedings, you should decide to change your mind. Let us be totally clear though - the payment of £616.43 now due to be sent to me as per enclosed acceptance is nothing whatsoever to do with Northern Rock Plc “not wanting to be in dispute” with me - this is a refund of money illegally obtained from me by your insistence that the offer of loan you made me in November 2007 was conditional on me taking an insurance policy with yourselves.

To clarify for the benefit of those who this has been copied to:
    1) initially you admitted mis-selling, offered me the wrong figure by way of a refund, and claimed that there was still a balance in excess of £3000 on a loan that had been settled over a month previously.
    2) In spite of a letter being sent by return explaining these inconsistencies, some 6 weeks later you wrote making the same offer again. At this time another reference was made to the alleged outstanding balance - clearly indicating that you had not even had the courtesy to read my letter explaining your mistakes.
    3) A letter subsequently addressed to your head of department was once again dealt with by you - do you usually fail to pass on correspondence to the person to whom it is addressed? At this time you decide you have changed your mind about the content of your first letter altogether, but you do at least offer a figure which appears to be correct, and which I am now accepting, however, you use an incorrect date on the acceptance form.

As it appears that anything addressed to those senior in your department will simply get intercepted by, and dealt with by you, I have chosen as you will note to copy this letter in to Gary Hoffman in the hope that the poor customer service which has been evident to date will be addressed.

I look forward to receiving the payment into my nominated bank account inside the suggested 10 working days, however in the light of your previous track record I am not holding my breath…..
:D:D:D Gary Hoffman, by the way, is NR's CEO......!

EH what on earth do you say to that - its unbeleivable - poor you. Well done for persevering how on earth have you had the patience????? They do seem to be a bit unorganised don't they.

Groceries - well I can hardly claim to be doing anythin wonderful as I am cheating aren't I - the stock answer for anything at the moment is 'go and get it from the shop' and so one of us totters off to the garage to refill something or get something new.

What I am chuffed about is that I haven't also been out 'food shopping' as well - so thus far my list stands up - and cos I am not shopping - there are very few 'bought' treats depleting my money at the moment.

Its been a hard month financially - May two bank holidays several birthdays and a five week month - oh hurrah - bring it on!! Time for sleeves up.
