Just wanted to say hello Fay, I've been lurking and reading for a whileAnd it was starting to feel a bit like spying without saying hello
I've been up to Orkney 4 times now, and had a great time every timeWe stayed in Stromness over Christmas and new year for 2 years in a row, and it was fab
Your house and garden and life sounds greatDon't envy you evil ex though
My poor mother was a single parent, and my dad, we saw him every week, but he was a little bit, er, forgetful on the old maintenance payments front... But we managed. Not nice to be bunged into a corner though - and good you can be firm on letting the kids still see their dad (however carp he is) - my mum never said a bad word about my dad (not to us anyway!) and we came to our own conclusions about him...
I'm also stuck in PhD la-la-land... and have been full time since September 2004! aarrgghh! I too have an evil supervisor, as well as a nice one, and have ended up having a years Leave of Absence, so it's all rather dragging on a bit. Should be out this summer though - although probably not if I carry on reading forums and not working,...
Our garden is tiny, but I'm growing lettuces, herbs, sprouts, courgettes, beans, and all sorts of stuff. They quickly get eaten by slugs, so there's always room for something new
We also have a van that we camp in - but it's not a proper camper, it's an old post van with a futon in the backGreat fun though.
Anyway, I'll go back to lurking and writing nowYou're doing great with your scary loan by the way!

xx
Hello and having delurked yourself I hope you hear more from youAce on the van with the futon - is it a fut-o-van? Great stuff on the growing and excellent to hear you've been here a few times - I wonder if we have passed in the street - its a wee place!
Whats your phd title......
Mines is:
'Assessing the potential of short rotation coppice willow as a renewable energy biomass crop for Orkney'

Hi to the rest of you lovely folks
Note to self staying out late and partying with Nordic forestry and bioenergy folk is dangerous and hurts your head in the morning:rotfl:
Hockeyduo thanks for the link - someone sent me it before at work and I was thinking about it for my final - or even the year after when I will be writing up.
LT - grr to certificates - hope it comes soon.
Molly - Hi me dear - bit naughty last night and drank too much- although didn't start drinking til after 10pm so thankfully I didn't have as much as the rest of the folk - how's the campaign to have a peedie look alike coming?
**waves at chev through the centre of the planet** whats the time difference?
Hi Piq - (our love child seems a bit perkier today)
Hammy just waiting for the thud
Uni - shoe decision? I guess soon I will have to start thinking about the whole thing myself - any luck with the magician?
Hi L - hope the job hunting is looking brighter today

Hi Pipsmum - hmmmmmm well done on managing to get through it all sex, scandals and low budget meal planning in thigh length boots ...what day is the wee mite being named?

If they are really tall then you can always do the same as you do for sweet peas and chop them down to about 3 inches and they will then grow double stems for you.
Too early to go out - depends where you are - is there any chance of frost? if there is then don't plant them out yet.
moths in the freezer - I do moth trapping at my willow plots and I am only just learning - I have some in specimen jars which are dead and although they dont need to be frozen I just did it to see how they would react.
I think they are Ok and didn't complain too much.
Maybe I am just obsessed with freezing stuff? Its one way to preserve the environment isnt it?:rotfl:Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Freezing slugs, well that is interesting. I once put one in the freezer, not knowingly but it had attached itself to a bag i had put down. They look like little orange and brown pellet, quite boring really...i threw it out and disinfected freezer! Yurrrgggghh, bleeugh a bit of a similar reaction to BEETROOT really.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0
