In the many posts I started and then aborted on this thread, I added in all those things (except for car repairs and replacement of white goods).....then it started looking scary as well as pitiful.

Think it was the £0 for entertainment, clothes, haircuts, presents that made it look rather pitiful.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

A lot of people have forgotten they're paying council tax! Also a lot of people don't seem to insure their house or contents, repair or service their cars, do household repairs, make any allowance for depreciation of their car or the need to replace worn out "white goods"

Perhaps when people are giving us this budget they could tell us how many adults/children in the household, whether their house is rented/mortgage/owned, are they working/studying. Not trying to be nosey but the size of your household has a lot of influence on your outgoings, as does whether you're working or retired.

Most of that is covered in our monthly £1900 budget.

Insurance buildings and contents is included. Since we use cashback sites for both, we also earned an extra £135 last year and £155 the year before.
I earned £545 from cashback sites last year, and £62 so far this year.

Because we are overpaying our mortgage by £745 each month, we do have some flexibilty.

We also have an emergency fund to cover last minute disasters and replace broken appliances etc.

:D Oooohhh that made me giggle! Nope, I wear clothes that are ancient or which have been kindly passed along to me and my hair, although long, is not quite to my ankles as yet.

And believe me, if I went around naked, I would not only be single but everyone would be running away at top speed! :rotfl:

Last item of clothing I purchased for myself was in October, before that it was Jan last year (one item each time and both in sales, no more than £5 each item), the last time I had my hair cut (apart from when I take the scissors to my fringe) was ...eeekkk, errrr, blimey...maybe 2 years ago.

Going to have to rectify that in the next few weeks though, I have a date to go on and I am being wined and dined in a very posh restaurant!

    rent 350
    gas, electric, phone 60
    food & wine about 130
    transport about 50
    clothes etc 50

    total 640
For one person, living in a shared house.

There will obviously be some things I've not included - for example, a new computer every 5 years, camera, etc. Then I also need about 100 a month towards holidays.
In general I find I spend up to £1000 a month. Could manage on less if I had to, probably £750.
