Monthly outgoings?

Out of curiosity I just worked back through my January statements to see precisely where the money goes...

I know you're a [strike]nosey[/strike] curious lot so I thought I'd share...

Fixed direct debits (incl 50/50 contribution to household bills & mortgage ... pension/gym/phone etc) £710
Food £325.15
Petrol £60
Everything else £120.83

Our household expenses are based on 2 adults. This was a pretty lean month on the 'everything else' front as we're currently hibernating. Also I've not spent anything on yearly expenses such as vehicle/household maintenance this month and not bothered to pro-rata anything like that here.

I'm mildly interested in how this compares to other people...

Everything else: the rest of my wages!

Based on one adult although the food is often shared between 2.

Too many variables which renders any 'comparison' useless.

    I incude everything such as;

    Birthdays, Xmas, Valentines
Replace tyres every 18months, still a real cost so allowed for monthly
Insurances, car tax, TV lic, car repairs - new wipers, car shampoo etc
Cards - brithdays etc - soon adds up
Sun cream / vitamins / prescriptions / boot polish / cling film
Holidays / Weekend trips / zoo / parties / meals out

In other words every last penny is accounted for and it comes to £3500 pm, down from the horrendus £5500 pm we were getting thru

Joint account: £500 (this is 41% contribution to all of the household bills like mortgage, gas, electr and food)
Fuel: £80 (really would like newer and smaller car - this is for 5.5 miles journey to work!)
Other: I guess around £250 (MIL birthday, sister's birthday and couple of meals out)

    I disagree with that entirely.

I think it's very interesting to see what it's costing people to basically live per month.

Of course there are many variables, but that's what makes it interesting. Be a pretty dull read if everyone was the same and had the same end figure.

  • Fixed DD's £254
    Child maintenance £200
    Food £200

So my "survival" figure is £654/month.

I didn't go out at all. Not once. And I made 99% of my own food from scratch.

Income in the same month was about £850, which is up on December's £400.

    Edit: finally got it right!
