connect a stereo/cassette oplayer to your line in on the PC, get a .wav recorder or some other music capture program. Convert the wav to mp3 then burn them off. Am doing so at the moment so I can retire my cassettes to the attic0

The line in will be a socket on your pc's soundcard.
Get a cable to go from your cassette player directly into the line in on the pc and it should work, with the right software of course

Some special software is also available to do this. My Dad bought it via the Daily Express a while ago, and it was called 'Audio Cleaning Lab' or something similar. It came with all teh leads, instructions etc,. It worked great for him, he had SOOOOOOO many old time cassettes that he wanted on CD's, and he wanted to compile his own CD's. It even included a wizrad for getting rid of some of the hiss.
He's no computer genius, but he can work this bit of software!

I use Magix audio cleaning lab 2004 all the time and I've always been amazed at what you can do with something so cheap - I cannot recommend it highly enough
It even has a demonstation 'video' tutorial in in the software to show you how everything works.
But be careful to get the 2004 version (eg from Amazon) - I've seen older versions selling in some shops for much more than you can get the newest one online.
On Amazon the Delux version sells for the same price as the standard version!0 -
it's really easy.. you can do vinyl in the same way.. I use it for recording my 7" single collection to MP3...0

Just a reminder that converting formats is illegal unless you own the copyright. Depending on how many you're doing you might find downloading the tracks off a P2P service is easier as someone will have done the touching up for you. It is of course just as illegal as transferring them but most record companies tend to class it as fair use and just go after the ones downloading without purchasing at all.
