Why would anyone use SCART if they could use HDMI?
You need to consider the source, if your coming off VHS recordings component scart is as good as you will get really, If you could get a HDMI connector for it you'd not see any improvement in fact it may be worse as the analog signal needs to be coverted to digital in the process, so adding processing into the mix.0 -
What VHS has a HDMI?0

Roddydogs your the one sugesting the OP uses HDMI without even considering the source and display they are useing. People who do not have a HDMI port equiped gear will not be able to use HDMI without spending extra money on digital processing kit.
Hey lets go buy a HDMI cable, they realise their DVD player or VCR doesnt have HDMI ports or maybe their TV doesn't? they would have been better buying the expensive scart cable at least it would have worked.0 -
Buy a THOR scart cable from amazon. They have 1.5 or 3 meter lengths and is by FAR the best cable you can buy for the money (And a hugh step up from tesco cheap cr*p):idea:0

Yes there is a difference. As a tv repairman (yes we still exist) I see the difference on a daily basis.
Price is a good indicator of how good a cable is just like anything else in life.
Generally any cable £10 or more from a reputable shop (argos, currys etc..) will be good enough for most people. The fatter the cable is the better it will be shielded, flimsy £1 cables will likely lose a lot of quality and pick up a lot of rubbish on the 1.5 metre journey to the back of the television. Look for faint images of other pictures in the background or diagonal/horizontal lines (sometimes quite faint) scrolling down the screen.
Expensive gold cables are the domain of the enthusiast who probably uses digital equipment these days anyway. These people dont watch programs they watch their television, usually from 1 foot away with a magnifying glass.:rotfl:0 -
