My taltalk package is £9.99 for 24/7 free calls and free broadband. I don't suppose they would offer a swap to that, but you could ask them what they're prepared to offer as you NEED to cut back so you're looking for an alternatve cheaper package. If they do offer a better deal, you could do either of two things, either snap it up, or say you'll think it over, that way they'll know you're not completely satisfied so might ring back with a better deal.

A final thing is that you could ask for the retentions, similar to mobiles, they might be in a better position to offer more.

If you need to reduce your outgoings and you are prepared to enter into a new contract then retentions is the way forward. They can offer advise on current talk plans - if you're a free broadband customer the only plan available at the moment is myTalkTalk at £6.49 per month for evening and weekend landline calls and calls to 36 countries anytime. This could be an option if you dont need the anytime call feature. As you would be renewing then its possible you would be able to haggle some discount too but this is dependant on how close to the end of the contract you are/if you are out of contract. The "saves tools" can only be applied to accounts coming up to the end of a contract or out if contract.

If you need any further information on plans or want a number for retentions etc let me know.

    Cheers

look here for a better offer on new talktalk contracts
    http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/broadband/home-broadband/talktalk

they are now giving away free evening and weekend calls for 12 months of the 18 month contract , saving £ 6.49 a month

not sure way the talktalk rep did not point this out to the customer ?

That offer is not available for existing customers although retentions can give an incentive for staying with TalkTalk. Also last time I put a link up forum admin removed it as advertising!! It would apear that I cant put that sort of link up without being acused of spamming and advertising?!

I agree and welcome your input and yes, you have to ensure a careful choice of words to avoid being removed as per guidelines.

It must be really annoying paying that much when they will give it free to "new customers only" as Mark Benton would say!

So much for TalkTalk customer loyalty.

  • seems silly to me if the customer in not in contact why the can not have the same offer as a new one, after all they would be signing a new contact, but then again it is talktalk we are on about!

Your name suggests your here to help customers with problems 'NOT' to try and keep existing ones or drum up business for new ones.
  • For anyone who goes for AOL - they give 2 months free quite easily (I remember from the times when I joined them and also latest "retention" experience proved this)

For current AOL broadband users: below is a target for future negotiators based on retention offer that I got this week (maybe you can do better!):

6.99 for 8meg unlim broadband + AOL talk
    contract 12 months
    free router
    2 mths free
    * BT line rental is paid on top to BT

(standard rate for this package is 9.99 and 18 mths contract)

I am still not sure though if I should not have gone for O2... AOL customer service is awful.
