  • Thanks Sunflower - the duvet is in the machine now on wool 40 as suggested by angeltreats .

How long do you reckon for tumble then? Been so long since I've used it ... guess I could put it on for an hour and see how it is after that?

PS: Blimey I must be a true OS MSE now, I'm breaking into a cold sweat at the thought of using the tumble drier :rotfl:

My daughter has an ancient feather eiderdown/bedspread that's been in the washing machine/tumble drier more times than I can remember. I wash it on cool/delicates then basically tumble dry till done, take it out, give it a good shake out from both ends and it's fine. I don't add tennis balls or anything as these damage the feathers and break the quills...eventually you'll end up with feather dust if you do this a lot. Shaking it well when dry is quite sufficient with a quilt.

We have a king size feather duvet which won`t fit in the washing machine so i just wash it in the bath.

I give it a good couple of rinses after a good wash and then wring it out and shove it in the drier.

It will need a good shake afterwards but it always puffs right up in the drier and comes up just like new.

Good luck, i`m sure it will be fine.

    Hi norman bean,

As you have now cleaned your duvet I've added your thread to the existing thread on washing duvets to keep the tips and advice together.

I wait for a warm breezy day and wash our hollow fill duvets it in the washing machine, shake out and spread over the top of the Hills Hoist to dry.

If you don't have a washing machine, gently wash it in soapy water in the bath, rinse and leave for a couple of hours for most of the water to drain away. (Draping it over a couple of broomsticks across the bath will help it drip more quickly if you're desperate). Then dry in the open air.

    hi all.

desperately after a wee bit of advice if i can please? you may just save my bacon!

I am dog sitting at the moment and after a scrap between two of them and a lengthy vets visit one of the dogs had a cut neck. as it had been stapled i had to keep an eye on him so slept on the sofa with him. unbeknownst to me the cut was still bleeding and has gone right through onto the owners duck down duvet!!

Does anyone have any tips on how I can get the blood out of the duvet? the cover has been washed and has come up fine but the duvet is a bit of a state!! if no ideas do you know if dry cleaners can clean a duvet same day or are they generally overnighters only? they are due back home tomorrow night, gulp!!:o

thank you in advance, I really would appreciate any help i can have! :o

Oh poor you, the only thing i can suggest is to put cold water on the bloody part, and pour salt on top and leave for a while, this usually gets rid of blood stains (it has worked for me) then scrape salt off and give it a good shake (if blood has not gone) give it another go,then put it over the line to dry. I am sure others will be along with good advice, and i will watch this thread with interest as there maybe other good suggestions for this blood stain.Dont think you would get a dry cleaners today and you may not even get it done and back in time tomorrow.Hope the dog is ok, i would think the owners would just be happy that you took care of their dogs and may not be too worried about the quilt.Good luck xx
