    Hi all,
I'm looking for a highly efficient air source heat pump (air to water) that combines easily with solar thermal.
Does anyone have experience of these? Nibe seem to have the goods, but there doesn't appear to be much info out there about them. Anyone any experience with them?

    TIA

I would suggest the vaillant heat pumps due to their back up and support.

if anything goes wrong during the warranty period a person from valiant will turn up with a van ful of parts meaning they can fix it there and then.

You do not get this support from other manufactures, what you get is a partner installer turns up diagnosis the problem then orders the parts and comes back to fix it so can be a week or more with out heating

Mine's a Daikin which is now just coming up to it's 5th winter.

We don't have solar thermal but the hot water tank has the tappings for it should we wish to upgrade and Daikin do a solar thermal controller which integrates into the heatpump controller. PM me if you want more info

  • Thanks for the info, the Mitsubishi PUHZ-W85VHA2 certainly has impressive performance data.
My father in law was always impressed with Valliant boilers, although the data sheets don't impress as much as the Mitsubishi. I take your point about issues with replacement parts. Hopefully they won't breakdown too often, but who are their units made by?
I couldn't find the full data sheets (range of ambient / output temps) for Daikin which hasn't filled me with confidence 😞 shame because it looks like they might be Russian, and they know about keeping warm in cold conditions!!!
    Anyone any experience with Nibe?

Daikin is a Japanese company I think but are made in Holland. They produce quite a few of the compressors for other manufacturers as well. here are some data sheets - http://www.daikin.co.uk/contacts-and-downloads/brochures/heating-datasheets/

Have a grovel around the Daikin site (find software downloads) and you can find a simulator/configuration tool which allows you to do some simulations based on your heating demand, locations and it will also estimate your fuel consumption. If you look hard enough you can get much more detailed information.
I've got a PDF of their technical data manual but it's 78mb so if you can find a way of downloading it you can have a copy

  • Thanks, really appreciate that matelodave
  • Mitsubishi or Daikin are my choice - sometimes it comes down to heat output not make. E,g, when we got out 14kw Mitsubishi, Daikin did not do ASHPs as big as that.

One of the reasons I was happy to go with Mitsubishi and not one of the companies that have jumped on the bandwagon with rebranded goods was the huge support network out there. Plus they are made 30 miles from us :)

    All,

Following up from my post last week, just to let you know that my Ecodan has failed for a 2nd time in 2 weeks (circuit board was replaced 10 days ago) with exactly the same problem (U6 error). I'd like to verify captainhindsights' comment that Mitsubishi let their partners do the fix which means waiting a few days without heating and hot water while the replacement part turns up. And this time the partner hasn't even replied to my texts/voicemails yet. Thankfully it's not too cold at the moment. I'll be calling Mitsubishi in the morning....

So based on my current experience I'm not too impressed with Mitsubishi's reliability. I'll keep you posted on the speed of their fix but it's not looking good.

The old vaillant heat pumps were made by a third party cant remember who off the top of my head but the new range is made in the vaillant factory in Derby.

    Sorry to hear that.

The mitsubishis performance figures prob make it one of the best on the market but it's support network lets in down in the case of breakdowns.

I think it is sometimes worth sacrificing performance for reliability and back up.

    Hope it gets fixed soon!
