\i have just added BB to my current phone account with TalkTalk(I know, taking a risk, hopefully I will be one of the lucky ones !!!)Have filled in all the forms on line and confirmed all my details, but have just thought that nowhere did they ask who my current provider is. How do they know who to contact ?

LOL sounds like the usual TalkTalk professionalism0

Talktalk don't require a MAC to migrate to their LLU platform. You should however check with your existing provider how to cancel your contract. Asking for a MAC even though TT don't want it sometimes triggers the cancellation process so well worth it.
If you do nothing then your existing provider may well continue to bill you - TT will blame BTw as usual.
Unfortunate that TalkTalk state on their cartoonlike website:
1. Check availability
2. Choose a call plan that suits
3. We'll do everything else..........they don't.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Hello there patgc,
It seems some people in this thread have been very quick to judge without a knowledge of the procedure for migrating broadband to an LLU isp so I'll clarify the process for you.
A MAC is not needed for an LLU transfer as this type of service is not provided across BTs network and it involves physically removing your line from BTs exchange equipment and connecting it to TalkTalks equipment in the exhange. When we receive the order for an LLU servuce we inform BT Openreach that you want to move suppliers. BT Openreach inform us of the date they are able to complete the work (usually 10-14 days after the order has been placed) and they inform your old provider that your service is moving.
Dependant on the terms and conditions of your agreement with your old provider you may have a notice period so its always best to inform them of your intention to move. As BT Openreach can only process one order on your line at any one time it is best to inform your old isp of your decision to move but to request that they do not process a cancelation as this could interfere with the provision of your LLU account. You can then call them when you are fully live with TalkTalk and let them know they can close down their billing account.
As you will no longer be on BTs equipment at that point they will be able to see (by checking the BT Tags system) that they can no longer provide a service to you and they can close down your billing account with them. As most providers charge in advance you may find you're entitled to a refund too.
Any questions fire away.
Cheers

Many thanks for clarifying this for me. At present I have my line with BT, my calls with TalkTalk and my BB with Madasafish. (confusing to say the least). So I presume your advice still applies. Do I also have to inform BT that I will no longer require their line ( for which I paid my quarterly DD at the beginning of Jan , in advance)0

Hav3e finally got through to MAAF, and they have said that I DO have to cancel properly with 30 days notice, so as of today my cancellation date is 6th March, TT have given me a provisional date of 27th Feb. So if I had left it till then, I would have had to pay another 30 days after that to MAAF. I have also had to pay MAAF £20 cancellation fee to disconnect my line at the exchange. So its costing me nearly £50 (TTcharge nearly £30 to connect)to make this change. So any savings I was hoping to make will be wiped out for the 1st year. Not happy about this really.0

It is always the customers responsibility to check any cancelation periods and cancelation charges. If they are charging you to leave you must still be in contract with them? Part of the thelephone sales scripting for TalkTalk advses that you should check contracts etc with another provider and the online sign up has a box to tick to say you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions of the sale. How did you sign up for the broadband service?
Cheers
