Lost my darling, old kitty.

  • Hi Maz,

So sorry to hear of your loss.
It is the most difficult thing we have to do and our selfless act never stops us from feeling guilty. I think the only thing that we can take comfort from is the fact that we know they are no longer in pain.
I lost my darling Labrador in November. He came to us as a rescue pup at 6 months old and we had him for a wonderful 12 years.
The vet came to our home and i was with him as he quietly went to sleep.
We knew the time had come to say good-bye as his health deteriated and put it off for as long as possible, however, we could see he was starting to suffer and the pain of seeing him struggling to walk made the decision inevatable. The hardest thing was, that although his legs stopped working & he became incontinent, mentally, he was still the same old Barney with an appetite of a horse and a big welcome as we came in the door! However, it wasn't fair on him as his quality of life just wasn't the same.
I haven't actually been back on here since then, but put a brave face on this morning to read everyones stories.
Time does heal and although things aren't the same anymore and we still miss him so, so much, i have at last come to terms with the fact that we did the right thing for him.
Everyone on here at the time, was so nice with their messages and poems. Still made me cry when i read your story, but i guess we wouldn't be pet lovers if we didn't feel this way about our 'family' members.
Take time to grieve and i know all the 'firsts' will be so difficult for you, but although you probably don't think it at the moment, you have done the right thing for your Kitty and i bet he is looking down at you right now saying Thank You for releasing my pain.
Take care and do let us know how you are getting on.
    Love & Hugs.

You did the right and kind thing for your boy Maz but I know how much you'll be hurting.

    I'm so very sorry
  • I am so sorry to hear of your sad loss - but what a wonderful life your little man had! My own dear puss is nearly 17 years old and we came close to losing him nearly a year ago. He has chronic pancreatitis and wasn't expected to survive, but with lots of loving care, a special diet and positive thoughts from everyone he's settled down and enjoying his old age. I can only hope that he lives as long as your puss did.

Don't feel guilty - you didn't really have a decision to make, you did the only thing possible for a much loved member of your family.

And just think of the fun he's having at Rainbow Bridge xxx

Once again, thank you everybody for all your kind words at this very sad time. Kindness is always appreciated.

I know we did the right thing by him in the end but it's very hard when you've loved a kitty for a long time and then have to make that decision. If anybody out there is in a similar situation, please know that you are showing your loved pet the ultimate love and kindness to them, by stopping their pain and suffering. Grief is hard to bear, I know and my eyes ache from all the
crying! Feel like 5 kinds of !!!!!! at the moment tbh!

For all of you who have passed your sympathies and understanding on, I can't tell you how much it has meant - thank you all from the bottom of my (shredded) heart.
