Lost my darling, old kitty.

My lovely, old lad died yesterday, aged 22 years and 9 months. He was vomiting blood, lost a lot of weight and old age and cancer got the better of him, bless him. We were chosen by him when he was 2, as a rescue cat, so he was a part our family for the best part of 20 years. He was in so much pain and we loved him so much, we had to do the kindest thing in the end. Hope he doesn't hold it against us!
RIP darling boy.

He'll have appreciated you doing the best thing for him. It sounds like he had a fantastic life with you. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Sympathy and hugs Maz! You did the right thing and he will not have anything to forgive: indeed he will be very grateful for your humanity and will love you all the more."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0

I think he'll be at Rainbow Bridge remembering what a wonderful life he had, you obviously loved him very much & looked after him really well, what an amazing age! I'm so sorry to hear he's passed on now, if you need to talk PM me anytime. He sounds like he was a very lucky lad to have such a wonderful Owner. I can only hope mine lives such a long life, you should be proud of yourself, i'm sure he loved you very much x0 -

His trusted humans took the brave and difficult step, ended his pain and took on their own.

Oh Maz, I know how hard it is for you to do the last kindest, caring act for your 'old boy' but we do it because we love them so much. Big hug to you0

Not really up for long chats at the mo but I'd just like to say a huge, tear-stained thank you to who have responded. It feels really weird having no 'old fella' in the house any more - he was such a darling and only a couple of ill health moments during his long life. He travelled the best part of 400 miles with me to re locate too at the age of 17 ( him, not me!) He was a tough old s0d. I can't forget his huge, wondering eyes, looking up at me as we drove him to the vets for the last time though. And the manic Irish vet who greeted us with a huge, manic grin on his face then tried to flog us enormously expensive cremation charges and oak caskets!
Sorry, a bit emotional at the moment!'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'

you did him a final act of kindness and let him go as easily as possible after a long and lovely life with you - how diferent his life could have been if you had not taken him from the cat shelter... he has really been a very fortunate cat in so many ways.
Give yourself time to grieve and miss him, he has been a huge part of your life for two decades, you will always miss him, but it will get less raw.
