Just opened mine at the nearest branch 9.30 a.m. They don't think it will last more than a week. So better move fast if you want it. As previously said, can only be opened in branch. No catches. Whilst in there, they go through their spiel, trying to get other possible business from you, when's insurances for household due etc., just said want the straightforward Xmas saver and nothing else. Pleasantly surprised that at the end of the 10 months, they can send a cheque in the post to me,when I request it, or they will undertake to go down to my own branch in the same town and pay it in for me!!! Just to keep customers happy. Thanked her kindly but diid also ask her if they realised we are now in the internet era and these things can be done electronically!!!

does the standing order have to be from your own bank account, as in my case it would be from my wife's current account.

LOL yes it makes you wonder.

Anyway, opened mine happily today at Hanover Square branch in London. While I sat there waiting there must have been 6/7 calls to reception enquiring about the Christmas Saver.

I guess they are really trying to put bums on seats in the branches. Nevertheless, Alliance & Leicester, who enable you to do everything electronically, have received far more of my money overall than B&B. Get the product right, make it easy for me to buy, and I'll buy it!

Mine was from my own account, and I'm no expert, but best thing is to ask them, quick before they close it down. Logic tells me that provided the money is coming from an account with that owner's permission, I can't see there would be a problem.

I was told that this is an experiment, and if successful, they might repeat it next year.

Can I make monthly transfers to it directly from my existing eSavings account?"

As promised and sooner than expected, here is the answer:

"This account cannot be managed on line it is a branch based account and it has to be opened at the branch. You can make standing order payments into the account… you would not be able to transfer from your Esaver account. "
Sorry my posts so long - not time write shorter ones.
  • Xmas Saver will no longer be on offer beyond this week. I do not have much money to deposit, I will be getting paid in the next few weeks, so would it be possible to set up the account with no initial deposit?

When I started mine on Monday, you either had to pay by cash, cheque or whatever there and then. So better look under the floorboards!

Opened mine yesterday, they were quite busy so didn't have time to try sell me any products. Whooppee!
