Has anyone managed to ask B&B to send the paper work out to them? I don't think I will be able to make it to a branch to open an account...

For those interested in the details,
this Money Saving Cristmas Account is described at:
    http://www.bradford-bingley.co.uk/savingsandinvestments/Monthly_Savers.asp

Has anyone found or read the T&C? Anything particular to notice there?

Excellent, but dont get too excited.
10*£150 = £1500 and the interest will be about £67 gross, £53 basic rate tax, £40 higher rate tax
    (using an iterative excel spreadsheet)

Well that's the way it goes. If only I could get a safe 10% on all capital! These offers are designed to pull in new clients who will hopefully take up other services I think. The thing is to have several of them with different banks, AllyLeics, HSBC & others give you high interests on limited monthly savings, you can make a couple of hundred or so p.a. Sure, don't get too excited, if you make the comparison with a poke in the eye it's better than that at least.
Sorry my posts so long - not time write shorter ones.
  • A little bit more info for those interested in this account

It's a short issue account, 20,000 available nationwide.

After the 1/12/06 the interest rate will change to 2% below the bank of England base rate...so time to shift!

Nor me. Offers like this are often designed to bring in new clients. Sometimes they gruntle the new clients but disgruntle the old ones, which for Brad&Bing includes me. I've mailed them asking
"can I set up and manage a Monthly Savers Account electronically, and without coming into a branch, since I am already identified etc. to you?
Can I make monthly transfers to it directly from my existing eSavings account?"

Because at first sight their ad. seems to suggest no.
Hope I can let you know answers in due course.

  • I've just opened my account at my local B&B agency office today. There doesn't seem to be any catches in the t&c's apart from you need to make one deposit a month (min £10, max £150) and you are not allowed any withdrawals until after 1st Dec 2006.
The woman told me that you cannot apply online for this account, you need to go to your branch. If you don't already have an account with Bradford & Bingley, then you need two forms of ID, such as Driving Licence and Passport (ideally) and a recent utility bill to confirm your address (no more than 3 months old).
Hope this helps. I know it's only for 10 months but at least it is better than using your current, bog-standard building society account!

What sort of ID would I require to open this account in a branch. Just phoned them but no answer. They've probably all gone home now!
