You've answered your own question:"The pigs are initially raised outside with their mothers, then moved to warm, dry, uncrowded barns."The man without a signature.0 -

No - getting a serious illness, losing your job, being separated from your loved ones or having your c0ck fall off are serious issues.
How many weeks that a big spends outside before it is chopped up and stored in your fridge isn't really a serious issue. I accept that animal welfare is important and respect your preference to eat meat from animals who have had a reasonable quality of life, but maybe that moral of the story - and one that it often repeated on this site - is that you should read the small print before you buy?0 -
Uuh! It's all about avoiding suffering. I am prepared to eat the meat of animals that have lived a fairly normal life, without suffering, and where they have been slaughtered humanely. Quite simple really! I would not wish to know the person who does not care about animal welfare.0

Thats me out then. Im a meat eater, i love it. I couldnt care less about how they are kept.0 -
IMHO the supermarket are telling you the life style of the pigs on the packet.
If someone doesn't read the back of the packet prior to purchase is that their fault?
I am in no way a Vegetablist but ensure that my meat lives a free range / happy life as it tastes better, and possibly has less chemical rubbish pumped into it.
My butcher sells both factory farmed and free range animal products, and all is labelled clearly. The £3 chicken is barned reared, the £6 chicken is free range, the £10 chicken is organic fed free range etc0 -
With regard to reading the small print on the back of the packet, why should there be any need to qualify the description on the front?
The intention of Tesco is to mislead!
I hestitate to congratulate the honesty of your butcher because honesty should be the norm; and congratulation for telling the truth should not be necessary.0 -
Who cares where the bacon is brought up as long as it tastes good. IMHO the OP needs to get some common sense.0

A week or two with mum, then 14 weeks in a shed being made to sleep (pigs who spend all their time sleeping get fatter quicker) and then off for the chop.
We should all be veggies and end all this nonsense...
You cant "Make a pig sleep", they need to eat. How many pig units have you been into? Now Turkeys, they are just sitting around in the gloom eating. They have really dull lives, possibly unhappy even.0
