Just found this in the news

    http://www.prweb.com/releases/2009/06/prweb2534734.htm

    It mentions "Firstplus" and says

Monthly policies, that can be cancelled at anytime, are far better as they give consumers more flexibility and substantially lower costs. What does concern me though is that First Plus is part of Barclays and claims are paid by their outfit in Dublin. Their decision-makers should have protocols in place that prevent this type of 'daylight robbery' occurring and they should use UK-based business to deliver their claims promise."

Barclays earlier this year challenged the Commission's rulings which included banning the sale of PPI at the time a loan is taken out and prohibiting the sale of single premium policies.

Sara-Ann concludes: "Given the outrageous profit they appear to be making from these policies, it's not surprising they were quick to delay the timetable for change. The Commission's recommendations were meant to come into force next year, but this could be put back now, giving them a wider window of opportunity to profiteer at customers' expense. Greater FSA enforcement is needed now."

Found this in the media as well in regards of First Plus:

Firm ordered to pay out in PPI battle - Published 17th Jun 2009

A loans firm has been ordered to pay back the money it charged a couple for payment protection insurance (PPI).

Recently, the Financial Ombudsman Service ruled that First Plus should issue compensation to the pair totalling £27,000.

The company offered a high-value loan to the couple and said that PPI costing £25,000 would be payable if they wanted to borrow the full amount available.

This contradicted a previous statement that the product - which enables people to go through the claims handling process if they are unable to keep up with repayments - would be optional.

According to the pair, they were not told that they were entitled to shop around for other deals and they only learned that the product they took out was expensive after they began struggling with repayments and approached another bank.

A First Plus spokesperson said: "First Plus fully respects the findings of the Financial Ombudsman Service in this case."

The Financial Ombudsman Service exists to settle individual complaints between consumers and firms which provide financial services.

Hi I emailed my local MP with regards to my case with Picture and the FSCS stating the lenght of time we have been waiting for compo. I recived a reply today. he is outraged that our claim has been upheld by the FOS but we still have not received payment for this from the compensation scheme, and the fact that we are being repossessed. He asked for any relevant documentation with regards to the FSCS and he will then write to them to chase it up. I dont know how you all feel about this but do you think we should all write to our MPs and see if they can push for our payments.

  • Got a cheque but no working out or explanation of how they arrived at the figure for one of my cards today, so they kept to their word and the 12 week deadline. Just got to wait to see what happens with the other one and the Ombudsman. I sound ungrateful I know but it has been 18 months. I'm not as miserable as this normally honest.

  • Hey peeps...

This is my first time posting on here... so bear with me....

I was wondering whether you guys can help me....

I have attempted to reclaim my PPI from GE Money/Santander. In short they said no because they can not locate the recording of the telephone conversation. Said they would investigate my request further if I provided them with details of the pre-existing medical conditions and details of my then partners employment status; as if the policy was rendered irrelevant because of my condition it would pass to him ????? .....

Anyway, some correspondance later they have told me to "get stuffed".....

The FLA have stated that as GE Money/Santander are unable to locate the records; i again have to provide them with all my medical history to prove that I could not claim on the policy...

Am I wasting my time ... I seem to be going around in the same boring circle...

Any advice or guidance will be most welcomed.....

I also wrote to my MP, who wrote to the FSCS, who wrote back and said Picture would be declared in default in the near future.
Hopefully the more MP's who nag them the quicker they will be.

    Hi Talley

So your given the runaround then?
    Sorry to hear this.

You could try having a word with your GP surgery and ask if they are able to just provide you with some medical information for a certain date, for instance when you taken out the finance, that year. (not the full records or they will charge, or charge a lot).
Or maybe your GP maybe kind enough to write how long you have had this medical problem.

I would keep trying if you can.
    Good luck.;)
